OT: Looking to Buy a New Car

I'm looking to trade in the current set of wheels and get something newer.

I've whittled the list down to a Chevy Avalanche, Morgan 8 roadster or a Hyundai Elantra.

Any thought from the 'yard?

And please keep the responses reasonable keeping in my mind my budget, commute, family status and driving desires.

And, please, please no comments about the virtues of leasing instead of buying, buying used instead of new or mass transit possibilities.

Ha haaa, that's quite a range of vehicles. I want a Honda Ridgeline so bad but that price tag coupled with the mpg is such a buzzkill. My Element will have to do.

I don't know much about any of the models in particular, but I can tell you I am VERY happy with my Hyundai. In fact, I think the Genesis is the best deal on the planet for a luxury car.

My buddy has had 3 Hyundais (Sonata, Elantra and the SUV) and not a peep of a problem on any of them..he keeps buying another one. He replaced the Elantra with the Sonata only because he wanted a bigger car, not because it had any issues.

Back to the original poster - unless I've missed my mark, and I rarely do, you are a lesbian lady and are looking for a car to carry your domestic partner and your four golden retrievers back and forth to your summer cabin in Vermont.

I recommend a Subaru of some type.

Lesbians stick with Foresters. I am a big fan of AWD. And MPG is getting more of a factor for those on a budget. I was looking at mid-size and crossovers recently and was surprised at the mileage the Legacy with the CVT transmission gets. And the new Legacies are close to being the size of a luxury sedan inside.

Since absolutely need AWD to exit our driveway most winters we are a Suby family. After many many Outbacks,wife drives '12 Legacy . I have an '08 Outback. These are pretty decent and reliable cars especially for their price point.

However does not feel as rock solid and may not last as long as Toyota I drove for 19 years... then sold to a guy who shipped it to Nigeria. It's probably enjoying it's second life painted cool psycadellic colors hauling extended families to exotic oil fields or has an AK mounted to the deck.

I know that you said no comments about used cars but you should think twice about buying a new car. You probably can find a very good used car with the warranty intact for a lot less. With a new car, you only have the privilege of bragging that it is new. It will lose $5 to 6k of value when you drive it off the lot.

I'm with you on that. I never buy new. I guess if I had a lot of disposable income I'd buy new. I've done quite well with my Hondas (Civic & Pilot). Not crazy about the Pilot's ride (stiff on the bumps) and a bit loud with the road noise. The 6 cylinder V-Tec engine though is ballsy.

I guess I really don't have much to add as far as what AWD to buy. Good luck!

The Morgan is kinda stylish compared to the Avalanche. The only problem is depression you spiral into as soon as your neighbor pulls up in a Morgan 9.

Eric Clapton liked the car, but as a forty year ferrari collector, stock wouldn't do. So, ferrari modified the car to EC's liking and stuck a $4m+ price tag on it.

And more recently, Steven Tyler got himself this little piece of machinery.

Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler just took delivery of the world's fastest convertible. The Hennessey Venom GT Spyder will accelerate to 200mph in 15.9 seconds, eight seconds faster than a Bugatti Veyron. Tyler was the first person to ask if he could have his without a top.

"We had to make a few structural changes to our integrated rollcage in order to be able to fit the removable top. Agreed. After I bought my first Venom GT, I just can't go back to anything less than 0 to 200 in 16 seconds. I'm considering buying one of the other 4 Venom GT Spyders that Hennessey produced, although might just jump on all four of them as a little insurance.

Here's another tip. Don't buy new and get into the habit of not borrowing when you buy. Your cars will be a lot cheaper and you will make better decisions.

Unless you can write it off for tax purposes, leasing is a very expensive way to acquire a vehicle.
