Kieran Smith, a sophomore at Florida from Ridgefield Connecticut set a new American Record in the 500 Free at the SEC Swimming Championships last night going 4:06.32 becoming the 1st person ever to break 4:07 (the rest of the world swims meters) and blew the old record away of 4:08.19 by Townley Haas of Texas. Congrats Kieran! Representing Connecticut well!!! :)

Geez. I thought this thread was something like 500 Free Throws.:oops::oops:

In the way back when my kids were teens Wilton was a swimming hot bed. Anyone know if it is still so?

No, it is not a hot bed any more. They have a good squad but from a club perspective maybe top 10 in the state now but barely. Westport Y, Chelsea Pier have both garnered the top swimmers. From a HS perspective, Greenwich is still kingpin, Chesire girls are strong.
In fact, a kid from Chesire Karl Bishop, swims at UConn and had some great races against Kieran over the years.

Will Kearsey won the 50 free at AAC tonght. He might be the first UConn men's swimmer to qualify for NCAA's since late 1960's. Tremendous 100 backstroke also. He's from England. BTW the men's team might finish last at AAC's, but win Big East next year. Coach Maiello is doing a good job
