He had already given some money, which is why the new football stadium is named for him. He is a graduate of Lawrence HS and KU, so pretty deep ties. Stadium looks great.

Found an actual photo online from someone who was moving their kid in. For anyone who hasn't been there, the stadium location is pretty nice. Big grassy hill that leads to campus on one side and a dense neighborhood or smaller homes (many rented by students) on the other. Lots of pre-game parties at those houses.

Edit: I know nobody cares, but I always imagined something similar could go in by Horse Barn Hill.

Rich people need to realize that there are a lot more important causes that could use their $300 million a lot more than a sports program.
Yeah I agree, but if I had that kind of money I might be tempted to give it to UConn, they are one of my life’s great pleasures. Being able to make sure we always had the money to keep up and stay competitive to me right now is kind of priceless.

This is totally how I feel. We all give to important causes and that is great. I also have received a great education, incredible memories and a lifetime of incredible sports achievements which have been important to me. Its my school and thats powerful.

Announced today… If my non-athletics focused Alma mater can score a $22 mil gift for its America East program, UConn should be able to uncover a deep eight-figure donor.

Horse Barn Hill? This is the problem:

Lawrence city commissioners voted Tuesday night to approve a package of financial and tax incentives worth around $94 million to support the project.

Mansfield City Officials? LOL

Yes, obviously it would not get that. That's phase 2. Essentially the part Lawrence kicked in for includes: "a new hotel, student housing, retail and dining spots, an outdoor event space, and additional parking. The city of Lawrence approved a $94 million incentive package to help push the project forward."

KU already spent $450M on the stadium itself and upgrades to the football complex (their version of Burton).

Mansfield is such a drag on UConn. Lawrence has grown a lot since I was there 30 years ago and part of that is so many grads love the town and want to stay. It went from about 60k to 95k now. So they open businesses and everyone takes advantage of the school. When I was in HS, we used to drive to Storrs and play Frisbee on the great lawn. Imagine it in a town of almost 100k.
