Their current stadium capacity is 62,000 - so this is actually decreasing the size of their stadium. They also played in front of an announced attendance under 7k in this stadium in 2012, which was a very good year for them.

Thankfully we have less than 3 hours remaining to deal with this crap.

more like your upset that a fcs school that can't hold southern miss's jock figured out a way to pump a dome 50k stadium for $200mil meanwhile we have a 100mil concrete erector set a half hour from our campus. haters gonna hate. no vision leads the blind.

The governor just gave the state the largest tax increase in history. Then told towns they were no longer allowed to tax motor vehicles because we need tax relief. Many towns are losing millions of dollars in revenues. The idea that the people of CT would spend $200 million for a new stadium less than 15 years after dropping $100 million for a new stadium is beyond ridiculous. Unfortunately the people who lecture us on the "culture" of college football are not in any way tuned into the culture of CT.

Jackson St already played in a 60,000 seat stadium, the state is set to make a ton of money off the sale of the stadium and land to be developed. They are opening up a SMALLER stadium with a dome so that it has multiple uses. Imagine HFD's outrage if we upgraded to 50,000 instead of a planned 60,000. Yet they are downgrading in size, and turning it into a multi-use facility for their basketball programs among other uses. Of course HFD would love for us to have a dome, that our 3 major programs shared, along with concerts and other shows right? Right?! Riiiiiight.

In 60 years, when our stadium is outdated, when we've developed a couple generation of fans of bigtime football, and we have improved roads and highways to campus to make it suitable for something this size, then maybe we can think about criticizing our leaders for not doing the same.

An FCS team wants to go big time with a 50,000 seat dome stadium.

I've been to a couple of J-State games as my wife is an alum. It was a good lesson for me in what it's like to be a minority when I'd be one of a small number of white people in the stadium.

In any case, the current stadium, Mississippi Veterans Memorial Coliseum, is way too big and needs work. They used to play NFL exhibitions there as well as the Egg Bowl between Ole Miss and Mississippi State. Now it is played at campus sites. J State also used to draw big crowds in the Walter Payton days. Now, there is no reason to have such a big facility.

Which makes a Carrier Dome-sized facility such an odd proposal. Jackson State is a poor school and its Bball teams don't draw big crowds either, so how can they justify spending that kind of money on athletics facilities? I'll bet this doesn't come close to seeing the light of day.

P.S. the real highlight of a J-State game is the half-time show featuring the band, The Sonic Boom of the South.

It's a good lesson. I had a similar lesson during the heyday of Freaknik and it's always stuck with me.

I'm heard that band kills it just like Florida A&M, Southern and Tennessee State to name a few others.
