Saw this on ESPN:

Seems like a really ridiculous situation - better just to have a mercy rule that ends the game at a 60 point margin or something.

This on top of the other game this week with the 100+ point win.
I know people complain about the coaches in this situation, but it really does get down to gross disparities in talent and situations where you just cannot actually play basketball without 'running up the score.'
And while it seldom gets this bad in college, you can bet Geno doesn't want to win by 60+ points against any team, but sometimes even with the end of the bench playing major minutes you just can't stop it without making a mockery of the game.

They should just score for the other team so they can run some offense

I wonder why they don't just let the other team make a layup. I'm all for working on defense but clearly its useless in some of their games. So let the opponent score a few baskets so your bench players can work on offense too.

That said, the rule is absurd. Absolutely absurd.

Now Centenial is a top national program. They could put up numbers like that against a lot of teams that would totally blow out other teams such as the team from Ohio. Top level players are gravitating to better teams when possible because they get to play a national schedule that challenges them which more closely represents the type of competition they will face in college. The biggest plus is that they get to practice against their own team mates and that keeps their on court intensity level up.

That said the restriction on margin of victory is absurd. A team like Centenial has to really work to make that happen. I know of a local team that had to drop out of their league because of resentment of the other teams. And that league wasn't really that bad but the presented no competition. The problem with going league less is that unless you live in a really large metro area you have entirely too much traveling on school nights aside from the problem of even finding simi competitive teams who will play you.
