and see what is so ducking great about your life."

Podcast interview with Geno Auriemma ("Lowe Post").

Some guy emails Geno at UConn (presumably Geno's email is easy to get off UConn.edu) and says (paraphrasing): "There's nothing special about UConn women's basketball and I don't why anyone would watch women's basketball anyway."

As "Special" as I see Geno ... he writes an email back saying the above.

We are so lucky to have Geno. And, I really have been thinking about Coach Joe Morrone lately. Morrone set the tone. As a small New England state, WE are going to innovate and lead College Sports. We are just going to find a way to be one of the best in this business. And, I see guys on these boards say: Why watch soccer or Why watch Women's BB or WE are never going to draw 45-50,000. This is why UConn is special. These guys built a fanbase with absolute excellence. Listening to the tributes to Morrone, it is all true: that guy built from scratch an amazing Program and was FAR ahead of the rest of college soccer in those years.

And, if you don't watch ... so what. Both of those guys and then Calhoun, found ways to really develop a Program entrepreneurial. And, now Ice Hockey with Cavanaugh.

I think this is why we deserve to be in a Power 5. We can build, innovate a great Sports brand in New England. Football, as crazy as Diaco is (and now I am beginning to see him as the Perfect HC for UConn FB), needs to be just as innovative. It is recruiting; but, it is also all those other things that go with being a top Program. If we have a large part of the TV watching football nation not tuning in ... that's just going to happen. UConn has repeatedly proven the capacity to develop excellent team sports. As for the Nelson and Jeff Hathaway ostrich thought, we just know that in Connecticut, we are going to have a good slice of that.
