OT: Husky fans around everywhere

I am sitting in Pittsburgh as a delegate to my denominational (ELCA) national assembly this week. I was wearing a UCONN ball cap when someone came up to me and introduced herself. I expected her to be part of the New England Synod delegation or somewhere in the northeast. Nope, she is a fan from California. She started following the Huskies a decade or so ago with the arrival of DT in Storrs. We had a great chat. Both of us agreed we can't wait for this season.

I live in Northern California I'm about 3-4 hours away from Stanford. My moms parents live about 10-20 minutes from Chino and 30-45 minutes from Anaheim Hills(where DT and KML are from respectively).

I was waiting for transit in San Francisco about 2 weeks ago when I spotted a man, maybe in his late 20s or so, approaching in a UCONN sweatshirt. I stopped him and asked if he went to UCONN and he said no, but his girlfriend did. I asked if by any chance she followed the women's BB program and he said an emphatic yes - both of them did. Loved them. Transit came and I had to board so our conversation was cut short, but another illustration of fans appearing out of nowhere, even on the west coast.

I live in Tempe, AZ. Earlier this year, I was taking relatives on a tour of Arizona attractions and had a UConn sweatshirt on. We were in Sedona when a woman approached me and asked if I went to UConn. I told her I did not but that I was originally from the area and was a fan. She asked whether I followed the men or the women and smiled approvingly when I told her I was a fan of women's basketball. Turned out she was living in California but was from Massachusetts and was a fan of women's basketball generally and several specific teams, including UConn. We had a nice talk. The whole thing proves the point the OP was making -- they're everywhere.

This is a funny thread. About 5 years ago I took a solo motorcycle ride to Alaska from CT. My wardrobe of choice was UConn tees & sweatshirts (It was 35 degrees one mid-August AM). While on an eight hour bus tour of Denali National Park the woman next to me started a conversation about the Huskies. Turns out she was from DT land. When the tour of the park (finally) ended I rode to a nearby restaurant where I met a guy from Palmer who must have been Jessica Moore's biggest fan. Small world

I found one at work! He's been a fan for three years, I've been one for much longer, and we just found out about it when he compared one of our coworkers to the Huskies when he was giving the speech at the coworker's retirement party. I tracked him down and said, Huskies? Really? And we ended up having a great chat about the Final Four games.

He wasn't around for the DT days. I can't imagine.

However many there are now, there'll be 2 more in Sacramento probably late next year (and Tempe will lose 2). Plus, Colleen & I will ensure granddaughter is raised properly in this regard.

As I have wandered around touring lighthouses, and even around Arizona, I have often seen UConn fans. I have always assumed they are probably women's fans, just as I often see fans for the football power schools.

OTH, seeing a Rutgers attired person anywhere but NJ is rare, and they often are alum and not fans of any particular sports.

We are everywhere! Palm Springs here, which is little over an hour from Anaheim Hills. We are also big KML fans. Go Huskies!
