Looks like UConn and Duke had the honor of hosting the last major sports event at the IZOD Center, aka Contiental Airless Arena, aka Brendan Byrne Arena, in the Meadowlands. New Jersey and the Meadowlands commissions are expected to announce it's closing as of March 31st this year. Not at all unexpected it reported is bleeding cash strapped NJ about $10 to $15 million a year and it lost its major sports tenants in 2007 (NHL Devils and Seton Hall Basketball) and 2010 (NBA Nets, now in Brooklyn) to the Prudential Center just 10 miles away. Does not help that Barclay's opened 2010 and MSG has recently been renovated putting IZOD decades behind those three. Plus, the other three arenas all have mass transit access.

It is a dump. But, I have some found memories of going to a concert or two there and several UConn basketball games live and in person. Plus, ranger fans loved to cause trouble there .
