A BY poster recently mentioned a player's "discrete tattoo." The correct modifier is, in this instance, discreet, meaning "modest."

These two words are homophones, words that sound alike but have different meanings (e.g., to-too-two; capitol-capital; their-there-they're).

Discrete means "separate" or "apart" (like the two e's in discrete). Discreet means "reserved" or "modest."

These two homophones are not homonyms. That's the term for words that are spelled the same but have different meanings (like fair, scale, suit, etc.).
