The Highlights were

"Herbst called Spring Weekend an "unwanted tradition," which, in the case of the vast majority of undergraduate students who attend UConn, is patently false. She also blames students' guests from other schools for the problems, when in reality it is the random people who have no connection to UConn who actually have caused the majority of the problems."

How is this an unwanted tradition? I understand someone died a few years ago but ur gonna completely ruin a tradition and something kids look forward to before finals week because of a death that was not even on Campus? The same sort of thing went on during my Sophmore year (05') at Uconn when they started putting in fences around Carriage and reducing accessibility on weekends for kids that didnt live there in effect killing the parties that use to go on. Carriage every weekend use to be what spring weekend was a few years ago with tons of students out having fun. By the middle of 05' no one went to carriage anymore or only those that knew people that could get on lists to get in. President Hogan at least went to the spring weekends and tried to make them safer.

Every college and university today is getting stricter where they fear for their liability if something goes wrong. It simply is what is and there is no reason to be blaming individuals for it.

theres def been a shift in universities trying to hide/clean up their image of being party schools. However theres killing a tradition and making it safer.

There were cops everywhere last weekend. I walked from Charter Oak apartments to south campus and saw at least 7 cop cars.

Uconn is about 20 years behind the mainstream in eliminating these types of open events. Be glad it lasted as long as it did.

Funny how the problems have seemed to have multiplied since the drinking age went to 21. If you want to treat adults like children, don't be surprised when they act that way.

On this we are in full agreement.

There were about 350 citations this past weekend, and over 300 of them were for minor traffic violations.

That tells you everything you need to know, really.

I was there from 2002-2005 and it went from Hedonism to Easter Sunday during that span. I think the unnecessary rioting after winning the titles in 2004 really put the end to Spring Weekend. I'm surprised there's still a spring weekend.

Sad to see the end of Spring Weekend for Carriage House and Celeron. Sure there were knuckleheads but you will see that every weekend especially the first few weeks of school. X-Lot should have been banned. I thought that was legitimately dangerous and never went back after my freshman year.
