    Sounds great.

Although I'm not going veggie again (I did for around a year and half 20+ years ago; the bacon in the jambalaya used for the Ragin' Cajun Omelet at Mo's Midtown in the West End of Hartford turned me back to meat), I have been eating more mindfully again for the past month or so. I was just commenting to my wife recently how great it feels to have reached the point again where I am genuinely hungry enough that good, whole food tastes really freaking good. Late summer is also a really good time for that, because of the abundance of fresh, local fruits and vegetables.

I approve the "Currys" obviously. Veggie burgers good too - love grilled veggies and try to be sure I have those rather than the fries and other sides which are so bad. Sometimes I fail, hence I need to steer a bit towards your thinking but can't take that too far. My "stews" need plenty of beef, carrots, potatoes etc etc ....Asian stir fry always good.

My wife grilled the best asparagus the other night with our steaks and I couldn't stop eating it. Middle of the night take one of my couple leaks and OMG the stench was so prevalent it was unbelievable. I could only then imagine the women/girls in the past who thanked me a while later for the great meal I took them out for which included asparagus quite often? Yikes:confused:

So years ago a bunch of my son’s friends were hanging out at the house. I fired up the grill and made some cheese burgers for them. When I put everything out, one of the guys looks up at me and says "Mr. 82, are these veggie burgers?' I said, "I'm sorry Dan. I forgot that you are a vegetarian. Let me make something up for you." He replied, "No that's okay, I'll just have one of these." I asked if he was sure and that it wasn't a bother but he said he was fine. The kid takes a bite and it's like I could hear the Hallelujah chorus going off. Those starved fat receptors were "alright, now this is what I'm talking about!” He looked at me and said “Oh my god, this is sooo good.” I think there may have been tears of joy welling up in his eyes. That was his last day as a vegetarian. It's years later and his mom, a pretty devoted vegan, still likes to thank me for that. My answer is always an enthusiastic “You’re welcome!”

I'm guessing the asparagus was the least of their concern.

Poultry is meat, but fish isn't?

That's up for debate. Why are catholics allowed to eat fish on Fridays during lent when meat is not allowed?

Why does it matter if you are doing it for dietary reasons?

For what it worth, if you post or link to some of your favorite recipes, I'd try them and likely work them into the rotation.

The OP questioned if fish was "meat". I guess I don't really care if it is or it isn't. Like you said, I do it for the dietary reason. I would love to still eat it.

That sounds like a ready-made NPR spoof with those Delicious Dish chicks from SNL.

    Beats me.

But more to the point, this is moving me in the direction of attending a major college football game for the first time in 41 years:

1975: Pitt scored first, but Penn State blocked the extra point, which would prove an ominous moment for the Panthers. Pitt kicker Carson Long missed three field-goal attempts, and the Lions escaped with a 7-6 victory and went to the Sugar Bowl.

Because back in the day, the pope did a solid for Italian fisherman. I thought that was common knowledge.

Correct as I'm sure most people know. It was for economic and political reasons, rather than religious. I'm non-religious but my wife is Catholic. I happen to love fish. So lent is fun for me cause I bust out all kinds of pan seared swordfish and salmon, beer battered cod, grilled whole trout, seared raw tuna....it is awesome.

Im kinda late but i ate them once. Me and a former coworker got them. I was bragging about how spicy stuff didnt affect me and he the same. So we both ordered it. He broke down half way through and was like man this is pretty hot. I didnt wince, although my mouth was on fire. After a while its just tingling in your mouth and numbness so that kinda helps. A coworker sitting next me had to move away because tears were dropping from his eyes... Good times

As a fellow spice challenge enthusiast I am kind of interested in participating in this boneyard challenge, but I just had Trinidad Scorpion+Ghost pepper+habenaro extract hot sauce a few weeks back that literally sent me to the toilet in 10 mins. My mouth went numb instantly and it roasted my insides all the way to the toilet. I've had plenty of hot sauces including a few ghost pepper sauces in my 20 years of life, but that was on another level. The TS is 2nd hottest right behind the Carolina Reaper so you guys are smart to avoid it. If you can handle a Reaper, you are not human.
