I want to expand the offensive options for our CYO team. I have started out with an open post set. We have an athletic 5 who has height and endurance but his bulk, strength and skills are limited. He is hesitant to drive on his man and has shown limited interest in improving his ball handling skills. Our 4 is a decent shooter and decent ball handler but slow. Our 2 typically has a height advantage, is a good shooter, is a decent-to-good ball handler but tends to settle for jumpers and, when he does drive, dribbles with his head down and doesn't see the court well. I am working on the head down thing and expect progress to be made. He also tends to make rushed and bad decisions. Another thing we are working on. Our 1 is a very good ball handler, has good court vision and is a good passer. He is very smart, runs the offense well and is very good at drawing defenders and dishing to the open man. He is still learning how to penetrate and finish more effectively and we are working on making his jumper more consistent, which I know is possible. For now, due to the loss of an injured player, our 3 is the weak spot on the team. The player and his sub have weak hands, limited to decent ball-handling skills and are inconsistent shooters and passers. They occasionally do good things on the floor but, on offense, I just can't trust them yet. Occasionally I can slide my 4 to the 3 and replace him with a taller player who is just as slow as he is, not a good shooter and not as good of a ball handler but he is the biggest, strongest kid I have. When I make this substitution I get more size and better hands on the floor but I lose quickness, ball-handling and defense.
So, any suggestions?
