1. coffee to Nicaraguans
2. The dog.(Gou nyan without tones, Yale Romanization. Last year was the year of the chicken, ji nyan)
5. It was divested of its monopoly allowing other carriers to provide long distance service at lower rates.
7. Caligula
9. Sharon Pratt
12. Thomas Eagleton was Hubert Humphrey's first vice presidential running mate back in 1972 who had to withdraw from the race for reasons I cannot recall. I probably have the years and the candidate wrong. I believe Eagleton was from Missouri(going for partial credit now).

3. Kal El - Superman -- Clark Kent
5. Court ordered that AT&T be broken up. AT&T became the long distance carrier. Local Phone services were divided amongst the Baby Bells. Much of this has been undone over the years.
7. Caligula

1..Coals to Newcastle

2..Dog

5..AT&T was broken up. Ma Bell became the Baby Bells; Bell Labs became AT&T Bell Labs (eventually Lucent) plus Bellcore, etc. AT&T began selling computers, which it wouldn't have been allowed to do had it still been a monopoly.

6..Bewitched, bothered, and bewildered

9..Sharon Pratt Dixon

12..Eagleton was George McGovern's first pick for his running mate. It got out that Eagleton had been treated by a psychiatrist, which raised some eyebrows. McGovern was "behind him a thousand per cent" and ditched him within a few days of the story breaking, eventually settling on Sargent Shriver as a running mate.

Do not let this deter you. Answering four questions is better than a lot of us do on some of these quizzes. Think of these quizzes as a team effort to which you are contributing.

“If, of all words of tongue and pen,
The saddest are, 'It might have been,'

More sad are these we daily see:
'It is, but hadn't ought to be.”

3.. Jor-El, A.K.A. Superman

4..Ruby is the song’s name but it is a love song.

5..AT&T had to divest itself of the Bell Operating Companies. The break up was the result of an antitrust action brought by the U.S. Justice Dept. A long drawn out court action was avoided when AT&T signed a consent decree.

7.. Caligula

12..Missouri’s Senator Thomas Eagleton was nominated as the Democratic party’s V.P. in 1972. Throughout his life he was plagued with depression and was institutionalized some number of times. Somehow this was never known by the voters and apparently the Democratic Party. However it became known and he had to withdraw from George McGovern’s presidential ticket. He withdrew from public service.

1..Pinot. Big & husky know the cliché.
Now I have been buying Columbian coffee at Wal-Mart for many years, and I have never seen a can from Nicaragua.
Trust VAUC to use underground contraband.

2..VAUC and I welcome IWear, as he leads a quartet of pooch citers.

3..Game provides relevant exposition. I adore relevant exposition.

4..Now here I was waiting for the fall-off-your-horse lightning eureka moment that would have someone say, " If I combine 2 of Ray's songs, we'll have 'Hit the Road, Jack Ruby'". Alas it didn't happen.

5..Again, I am tickled when someone, in this case Game, SVC & Big, give us fuller explanations.

6..Pinot, Big & zorro are deliciously flummoxed by Cupid's arrow.

7..VAUC Quartet acknowledge Caligula. Not a good role model.

8..McFly gets a shout out for being the solitary writer of Princess Margaret, but I'd encourage him or her to let the rest of the world know the nature of that connection.

9..Yes to VAUC & Big. The "Dixon" reference is to a once married name.

10..You may hear it while eating gumbo.

11..Your failure here has me pacing my 7 rooms of gloom.

12..K9 leads a quintet offering various germane details. See, I knew you could do it.
Now, as Geno says, practice the detailing until you can't get it wrong.

13..Thank you, zorro.

Kindly finish 10 & 11. And if someone could elaborate on 8, we'd have a sense of completion.

8. Romantic relationships. She fell in love with Townsend, but was not permitted to marry him, as he was divorced. Seems I've heard that story before. And since. She later married, and still later divorced Armstrong-Jones.
1. I've always heard the expression as carrying coals to Newcastle. Nothing about selling them. So I still like VAUC's and my answers better.

See, McFly, this is a democracy, so you 2 would be up against the 3 posters and your testmeister who think differently.
But you get credit over the Princess elaboration.
