1. State of aggressive sexual behavior/activity/arousal experienced by very large animals such as elephants.
2. South Florida
5. Mafia chieftain Frank Costello

12. It can be argued that his hajj to Mecca was the reason and it surely played a huge part, but prior to his pilgrimage, Malcolm X had been placed in "isolation" by Elijah Mohammed for a comment Malcolm made regarding President Kennedy's assassination about the chickens coming home to roost. While in isolation, Malcolm learned of sexual improprieties committed by Mr. Mohammed that were contrary to the strict rules of morality imposed and enforced by Mr Mohammed on Nation of Islam members. Malcolm X was already disenchanted with the Nation of Islam when his knowledge of Islam expanded during his pilgrimage to open his mind to the prospects of cross racial acceptance.

4. Henry V, as in "We few, we happy few, we band of brothers."

5. Albert Anastasia, at the Park Sheraton in NYC. In 1972, another mob hit (Joey Gallo) occurred at Umberto's Clam Bar in Little Italy. Several days later I was reading about it in the paper and was surprised to learn that Gallo's residence was listed as 7 West 14th Street---where I lived. Who knew?

6. Romania

8. Italian---Piazza---as in Piazza Navona, where I stayed when last in Rome
German---Platz---as in Josephplatz in Vienna, where Harry Lime was supposed to have been killed in "The Third Man."
French---Place---as in Place de la Concorde in Paris, just west of the Tuilleries and the Musee Jeu de Paume

11. By Neil Simon with Redford and Jane Fonda in the film

13. Sing Sing----no wait, that's a prison---Sing Sing Sing, written by Louis Prima

10. The Imperial Japanese Navy and the United States Pacific Fleet. The Japanese, after having successfully lured Admiral Halsey's main aircraft carrier fleet north, tried to drive the US Navy's Philippine invasion landing force away from the beachhead area. The landing force was protected by older battleships, destroyers, and "jeep" carriers (smaller, lightly-protected escort carriers). Despite being surprised and out-gunned by the Japanese force, the American force resisted the Japanese push.

7.."Did you exercise earlier?"
"Yes,...?

or first words of the 1959 hit by the Impalas.

13..Yes, VAUC & chj, but many would say it was LD(?).

1..I have no information that VAUC also is among those very large, animals.

2..Some of you who chose facile responses may argue that you are technically correct, but the record will
show I am only accepting Everglades.

3..Now SVC is real close to correct, but the flaw is "with this" conveys simultaneous events. Now if the events occur at the same time, one can't, by definition, be a cause. The expression is POST hoc etc. AFTER
this, thus because of this. The fallacy then is that the antecedent
may be independent of the later happening, so one can't justifiably assume a cause.

4..Herman's Hermits said it first--I am Henry the 5th I am. I may have this wrong.

5..Chj wisely moved out of a bad neighborhood, but he and husky know a mob hit when they see one.

6..Again the chj/husky pair. It would be accurate to include Monrovia also.

8..Mrs. chj is really ticked that he travels so much. And see my already offered response on Q16
for the additional trouble he courted.

7..Rocket forgets he's supposed to translate my hint into a country, but he spaced out. (Ha ha, get it?)

9..Husky nails Asia.

10..We could all benefit from what Pinot knows, i. e. if you are not totally sick of all those history courses you had to take to graduate.
And Purduke, was one of those fellows Japanese?

11..Here's what I think happened to Rocket. After typing Neil Simon, he thought of Paul Simon, and that segued into turning Robert Redford into Paul Redford. Let's wait to see, if Rocket offers an alternative explanation.

12..See VAUC for fine detail. I'll make a slight elaboration of the "cross racial acceptance" term.
Malcolm in the Middle East witnessed whites showing no symptoms of racism. He concluded that
Caucasions were not automatically white devils, but that the problem was cultural, thus theoretically redeemable.

13..Yup, one can pick from Sing, Sing, Sing or Let's Dance.

11. I'll bet it was a kind of portmanteau thing using the two stars of Butch Cassidy. Kind of like Brangelina.

I think my answer on #10 is more on target. It was the US Seventh Fleet commanded by Admiral Thomas Kincaid that fought the Japanese off, not the entire US Pacific Fleet. Halsey's Third Fleet was the one lured away from the action by the Japanese decoy. What some do not know is Kincaid's Seventh Fleet also commanded all of the Australian naval forces which also took part.

I would offer an alternative - if I could. Guilty as charged.
