1. Third day at Gettysburg. Having missed an opportunity at the end of the first day to grab the northern end of the high ground just south of town, and having, very narrowly, failed in the attempt to grab the southernmost high ground at the Round Tops during the second day, Lee opts to try a frontal assault to the middle of the Union Line, which continues to occupy the high ground on the east side of the battlefield. His troops are largely tired, supplies are depleted, but Lee wants to make one more attempt to drive the Union Army off the battlefield, breaking their spirit, and opening up the way to advance on eastern PA, MD, and Washington, DC.

George Pickett's division is still fresh, so, despite Longstreet's cautions, Lee sends his troops across roughly 1.5 miles of open field, exposed to Union artillery. Although the South has artillery too, the North has more of it, and the steady march of Pickett's 10,000 or so troops just comes closer to the Union guns with each stride. Despite the incredible cost in lives and wounds, the bravery of Pickett's division is such that they actually reach the Union line, and nearly breach it, but they do not have the ability to create the significant break in the Union line that Lee was hoping for. Pickett's troops fall back, Lee's last chance for victory at Gettysburg broken. That night, bereft of troops, supplies, and morale, the Confederate army retreats back towards Virginia. The Union army also exhausted, newly-appointed General Meade does not pursue the retreating Rebs aggressively.

9. Seen a thing or two, Farmer's Insurance.
13. A river in Egypt.

4. Stewart is George Dowd, a man who likes to drink a bit. He has two older female relatives who are concerned about George, particularly George's insistence that he spends much of his time with a pookah, a mystical, fairy-like entity, which regularly appears to George in the form of a giant rabbit, named Harvey. Eventually, George's relatives convince him that he might need professional help and a stay in a sanatorium, but, Harvey kinda makes his presence known enough to scotch that deal.

1. Gen, Robert E Lee ordered the end of the Battle of Gettysburg with the command to charge Gen. George Meade’s position on a ridge on the third and final day of the battle. “Look guys we will surprise them by charging across an open field for approximately a mile. They will never expect such a foolish move. No! No! Don’t worry about being sitting ducks to cannon fire. I’m not! Of course I won’t be joining you. I’m crazy; not stupid. Gen. Pickett is the one who is stupid. He said okie dokie Bobby Lee. CHARGE!!!!”

1. Pickett was the commander of a brigade which was ordered to advance into the teeth of a union position on Cemetery Ridge at the end of the Battle of Gettysburg. The brigade was repelled and thus ended the last attempt by Lee to break the Union at Gettysburg and Confederate forces withdrew. Some call it the high water mark of the Confederacy and it was the end of the last major offensive into Union territory by Lee. Pickett understandably ended up being bitter about the whole affair.

4. Jimmy Stewart's character has an imaginary pal who is a six foot rabbit named Harvey. People think he is crazy. Hijinks ensue.

6. When I was 21. It was a very good year. Frank Sinatra crooned.
