6. Franz Joseph Haydn's Surprise Symphony. The music gets softer and softer, and then is suddenly very loud, surprising the audience (and waking up anyone who might be dozing off).

1..Cagney, Yankee Doodle Dandy

2..Sir Edmund Hillary's Sherpa guide on his ascent of Everest

5,,Self, the Stranger

6..The Surprise is one of Haydn's London Symphonies. It has a big chord at a seemingly random part of a quiet section, I think in the slow movement, possibly in the dance movement. The Drum Roll Symphony, another of the Londons, similarly has a drum roll in an unexpected place

7. Stevie Wonder, Living for the City, one of the great hit singles of the 70's.

9..The widow of Malcom X

11..I'm guessing that it's the equivalent of Appalachia, but the Cascade mountains?

12..In the last week or two, the Laser Interferometer Gravity-wave Observatory (LIGO) announced that they've observed a third gravity wave

4..Confirmation bias is found in scientific studies where the researchers focussed on the evidence they wanted to find instead of evaluating the totality of the evidence and making a judgement based solely on the facts or data.
