9 - for his diary. Oddly, apparently pronounced Peeps. He kept a detailed diary for about 10 years in the mid 17th century including the period of plague and the great fire. He was a government official and had the ability to mingle a bit around court, and in general gave a picture of life in the London of his times. To be fair, my wife and I are listening to a Great Course on London and just finished the Pepys section a couple of weeks ago.

11. Its associated with the Pope. It means something like (to the) City and World. It is an annual thing, I don't know if it is spoken or written.

1. This was the name of one of Hitler's military compounds during World War II, albeit slightly more than 70 years ago. If memory serves, this was the location of the failed July 20(?) 1944 assassination plot against Hitler.
2. Guns 'N Roses. Possibly also the later "supergroup" Velvet Revolver
5. President of Nigeria, I believe

3. Gold. As strange as it may seem today, the possession of gold by Americans (except jewelry and other incidental uses) had been outlawed by the federal government in the 1930s.

1..Adolph brought in Joe McCarthy to practice building a fall-out shelter that became all the rage in the States a decade later. The Pinot Quartet.

2..Here goes that Meyers again with abbreviations. Don't encourage him. Full credit to the Waquoit Foursome instead.

3..Gold, as rbny adroitly burnishes it.

4..Jimbo with the finishing touch of Mila, following Rocket & Waq's naming That 70's Show, with Meyers feigning dumassedness.

5..Hoop covers the crucial bases. We know him mostly because of the publicity he garnered as a war criminal.

6..Geordi traipsing in crossover land with Eddy Arnold's Cattle Call.

7..Hoop provides the minor(as in usually "little" rather than of little consequence to the folks along its banks) omission of the Meremac, along with Mississippi, Missouri & Illinois.

8..Rocket's foursome with Colorado, home to increasing numbers of dudes.

9..VAUC & hoop recall the keeper of small observations of his time. If Meyers had lived in that time period, Sam would have duly
provided his various scandals.

10..http://www.bing.com/search?q=mark+t...2300C97FA4F2FA0E30007A48FB023&FORM=QBLH&ghc=1

11..Knight & hoop bring us into the Vatican.

12..We can't get more encyclodaedic than MJL. See that fella.

13..An uncertain but accurate hoop with Open Door Policy. He's still wondering what part of his brain held that tidbit.
