that episode last night was great. i just wish that next week wasn't the last episode.
tons of talking this season, which is fine. last nights battle scenes looked like a movie. HBO is pour a ton of money into the show
Other than that, Boromir (the only surefire way I remember him) dies and Joffrey takes over, and the walkers or whatever are killing people up at the Wall are barely addressed at all.
So what was the point of the Walkers in the first season? Literally nothing comes from that side story (if you can even call it that)
I've been waiting for someone to post something about this show. Also, I please ask that anyone who has read the book series not post any spoilers!
But yes, great episode and this series is steadily climbing to one of my favorites of all-time. I actually enjoyed season 1 a bit more, but this season has been wildly entertaining as well. The war scenes from this episode were fantastic. You'd have no idea that these scenes were not from an expensive movie.
Overall, love the show and can't wait to see how things end in the finale next week. Still a lot to be settled!
A little disappointed that they left out a key strategic point in the initial sea battle (chain across the bay) but other than that it was a great episode. Love the dialogue as well. Bronn vs. the Hound would have been an epic fight. The actor that plays Joffrey is fantastic. I just want to slap that kid in each scene. Peter Dinklage (Tyrion) should get best actor at next year's emmy's.
I loved the cat and mouse aspect of the Arya/Tywin scenes in the show this season. Arya never meets Tywin in the books, so the Tywin character in Season 2 is an amalgamation of 3 characters from the book. The actors who play Arya and Tywin both deserve Emmy nominations for this season.
The producers of the show have made a ton of executive decisions in adapting the book to the show, and have nailed just about every one. Martin's books are sprawling, meandering stories where he builds out dozens and dozens of characters, so a lot has to be cut to make it work on the small screen. Some of the decisions, such as Arya/Tywin or adding the scene with Cersei talking to Tommen on the throne in the last episode, have been absolutely fantastic. They have also cut back Danerys from the book, which is the right move. That is a confusing plot line that is unrelated to the more interesting plot lines back in Westeros.
Book 3 is the best of the series IMO. Like Zoo, I generally do not like fantasy and never even finished the first Lord of the Rings book, but Martin is a great writer, and the books are much more about the characters in this very interesting world that Martin has created rather than some epic struggle between good and evil like most fantasy. Actually, in the books and the show it is not clear who the heroes and villains are. Even someone like Cersei is a much more complex character than the typical evil witch/queen in most fantasy. Tywin and Theon certainly do not think of themselves as evil.
Happily HBO has picked up the option & signed on for two more seasons of episodes. It was announced a couple of weeks ago.
Yes and the next two seasons will cover just book 3. George R.R. Martin needs to get going on books 6 and 7 already before HBO catches up!
