This is his (at long last) magnificent formal Nobel Prize acceptance speech.

no one who has ever embraced Rock as an art form has had a greater self-conscious sense of the traditions and his place in it. Love him (I do) or hate him, he has changed popular culture more emphatically than anyone since Louis Armstrong. (I would argue that the next great influence on popular culture is the astonishingly high quality of originally weekly, now on-demand [aka binge watching], TV series, from the Larry Sanders Show to Breaking Bad and beyond.)

Thanks! I concur, in spirit. (And it is a pleasure to see someone out there recognize The Larry Sanders Show as truly ground-breaking.) But like it or hate it, hip hop (or rap) has arguably changed pop culture every bit as much as just about anything to come out of music since Armstrong. Its forms, idioms, conventions and vocabulary permeate damn near everything.

Then again, maybe even rap owes a debt of acknowledgment to Bob:
