GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida Gators linebacker Antonio Morrison has been arrested for the second time in five weeks, this time for allegedly barking at a police dog and resisting arrest, and will miss at least the first two games of the season after being suspended from the team Sunday.

Morrison's defense was the dog barked first, according to a police report.

....

"I'm extremely disappointed in Antonio Morrison's decision making," Florida coach Will Muschamp said in a statement. "He has been suspended from the team and will miss at least two games to begin the season."

Alachua County Sheriff's spokesman Art Forgey said it's rare for someone to harass a canine officer.

"We don't see that very often at all," he said. "Gainesville Police Department has horses and they see it sometimes. Usually everybody steers clear of the dogs."

Morrison -- a 6-foot-1, 230-pound sophomore expected to be the Gators' starting middle linebacker this season -- told the officers he barked at the dog because the dog barked at him first.

Nice to see that Muschamp is actually trying to control his players. Meyer would have suspended him for one series of downs.

He should be suspended for the season. 2nd arrest in 5 weeks.

No, Meyer would have suspended the dog. though without being there one has to sort of wonder if the cop didn't over-react a little. I guess it depends on the situation...

Forget suspended...he should be gone. Night clubs, fights, out at 3:45 AM, resisting arrest....serious red flags...but then again, it's Florida.

Similar path AH took. Not that this guy becomes a murderer but do you really think he becomes an angel due to a 2 game suspension?

Florida, FSU and Miami...yeah I want my kids going there.

I'm sure the guy was grasping at any reason not to be arrested, but does it make any difference if the dog barked first?

Is barking at a dog really a crime? Clearly this kid is a few sandwhiches short of a picnic, but arrested for barking at a police dog?? Worst case, the dog introduces his teeth to this kid's butt and the story ends. I guess they took it as a threat against the K-9. If so, "the dog barked first." is a good statement. lol

I don't think it was so much as barking at the dog. He was antagonizing the dog, by barking at the dog through an open window, and then the dog starts barking back. This was going on while police were actively investigating something so the police probably told him to chill out and he "barks" back that the dog barked first.

Don't you know who I am attitude shines through.....won't shut up...resists arrest....end of story.

My statement was tongue-in-cheek. 2 arrests in that time span would raise all the flags one needs. He is innocent until proven guilty, but it looks bad for the program,.

Don't disagree. This is my problem. Kid gets into a fight and is arrested, there should be some form of punishment (I thought the punishment for Scott Lutrus was too lax, by the way). But you get arrested, unless you are a complete idiot, you do not put yourself in a position to get arrested again!!! Stay away from late night parties, stay in your dorm with people you trust when you want to have a good time. This kid was arrested 5 weeks ago, and thinks it is a good idea to bark at a police dog!?!?!?!

The headlines you just can't make up. Gator arrested for punching bouncer! Gator arrested again this time for barking at police dog!
It's almost like they are talking about dumb humans rather than gators.....

I am thinking the Georgia Bulldogs offense will have fun at their game this season.

Surprise...

State Attorney's Office said charges against #Gators LB Antonio Morrison officially have been dropped. #Gators
