What was to be a little 2 day sprint into Southeast Idaho in the middle of a daughter's visit ... Tuesday morning we are sitting at breakfast and notice my wife has her head on her plate!! A medivac chopper flight to Idaho Springs and 9 more pass out events and my wife is now packing a pace maker. I'm home to prep for her arrival tomorrow.

My wife became dizzy and semi-unresponsive last summer and finally agreed to go to a local ER.

Amazing what a pacemaker can do; bringing heartbeat up to snuff (if that is the problem).is a small job for a very sophisticated item, these days.

Mei skied 50 or so days this season...better and more vigorously than ever....wish I could keep up with her.

Good fortune to this portion of your wife's life. She'll be fine.

The pace maker was placed on the 3rd, but overnight the ventricle lead let loose, so back in. I do expect a very good result but her heart is cranky from all the poking etc. Her heart has to settle down to enable more fine tuning if needed. I do anticipate her energy and overall well being is going to tick up. Thanks for your kind thoughts and good wishes.

if you do a lot of flying remember that you can't go through the x-ray machines with a pacemaker..........the good news is they often move your whole family to the head of the line where they pat you a down..........that pacemaker can be a real time saver!!!

How awful. I hope her situation is under control. When we travel on vacation trips that are far away, we always buy cancellation/interruption insurance that includes emergency medical treatment and evacuation. We’ve never had a dire emergency, but have had the need for medical services. As I write this, we are traveling through Poland.

We purchase medical/evacuation insurance when we travel abroad too, which is less and less. Probably a small chance, but so much of the "civilized" world is getting more dangerous for blue eyed devils like me.

Don’t want to get all Cesspool here, but somewhere, someplace, somebody or other said we’d be shot walking down the streets of American cities. But I getcha. We try to pick our spots but tend to feel that the odds of being in the wrong spot at the wrong time are still pretty small.

ROCKY: just now finding this. Can only echo much of what has been so well conveyed by others. Will also underscore the good news about pace-makers based on the experiences of friends. You know you and your wife have best wishes from me and my wife. Will send up a prayer right now. Stay well.

Wow, scary. It's good that it is resolved. I said a prayer for you wife and for you. After that kind of stress, you probably need a vacation.

I've had three friends shot on the streets of America, and my father was once stabbed on his way home from work. I personally have twice stared down the barrel of a gun.

That said, nothing but the best wishes of health for your precious wife. In the sum of it, your family are the real jewels of your life.

Also remember, to all of those dealing with ailing spouses, children and parent. Your personal health is very important as well. If yours fails, who's to care for your ailing family member?

Sorry about your experiences. I worked for an agency with people who frequently had to go into difficult housing projects and neighborhoods and none of them were shot or stabbed. My son was in lockdown in his office at VTech
during a massacre. The point,as you see,is travel abroad isn’t exceptionally more dangerous than traveling in the US.

The broader point is,trip insurance is a great idea to minimize the stress of dealing with health issues arising during travel.

A little refresher course for those who may be a little rusty on this point. NEVER leave a loved one alone in a hospital. Overall this hospital impressed the heck out of all of us. Two grown daughters were with us. One a Nurse Practicioner (palliative care) and one with being any anesthesia specialist for animal surgery . The night after the pacemaker implant my wife's heart monitors went really wonky and the cardiac care monitor and attending nurse swore up and down it was due to lead placement errors. My anesthesia daughter (on night watch) was adament about that being wrong and that much of the irregular activity could not be produced by lead placement errors. The following AM the Doc took a look at the telementry - actually the first person to figure it out was the pacemaker co. technician who came back because of the stink made by the daughter ( she hooked up her machine and said "I'll be back in just a minute.") - and the wife went back to the Cath Lab because one of the two leads had detached and was flopping around!

The hospital is the LAST place to be passive......be an aggressive advocate for your loved one.

Back on Dec. 6th 2016 my heart stopped for a second while in L&M hospital (had a heart attack Dec. 1st at UCONN vs DePaul WBB game at Gampel)!
The 7th I had a pacemaker put in! That was the morning of the UCONN at ND game and I threatened my Doctors I better be able to watch the game or else I'd hunt them down!
I watched UCONN win big from my hospital bed!
