“@EvanDaniels: Donovan Mitchell tells Scout that he has committed to Louisville.”

Ouch- that's gotta hurt for Providence.

Good for him. I know he's broken out a bit this summer, but I haven't looked into him seriously for about 6 months. Back then he was considered a good local prospect, but not necessarily at our level. I guess it's a good get, but I would bet a lot that UL would rather have Blakeney. That's gonna be a great battle between UK and UF.

Nice recruiting class they are putting together. Mitchell should fit in well there. He's got a lot to work on but is a serious athlete and plays hard. He will jump in the rankings but I'm not sure he will see much PT at UL for a few years depending on who else they get.

I hope Blakeny goes to UK, may give UConn a (better) shot at Newman.

They were on him for 2 years. Today the p5 comes to fruition and there is Rick showing him all the benefits he would not get at Providence and presto.
I think it will be hard to get any commits for awhile until there is clarity. Even our President issued a statement today saying we would follow most of it.

I take it you missed the news that Blakeney cut his list a week and half ago: Florida State, Louisville, Mizzou, UK, Oregon, LSU, and USC. Florida did not make the cut.

Mitchell absolutely blew up in July. Surprisingly, he stayed loyal to the schools that had been on him the longest and didn't give any of the blue bloods much attention when they started calling him.

That's a killer for Providence, they have been hounding the kid for at least 2 years and have been saying it would be the biggest miss they have had in years. I like Cooley but he's not the recruiting juggernaut PC fans are claiming he is, it's also not exactly the easiest place to recruit players to.

Key words were depending on who else they get. To be fair I should have added depending on who stays. Right now they have Rozier (top postgrad recruit, probably at least top 30 if a senior, may not return though, getting a good amount of NBA buzz already) Anton Gill played in 19 games and averaged 5 per game, he was a top 50 recruit), Snider is an incoming freshman and a McDAA).

Say Rozier leaves, that's still Snider and Gill as returning guards. Shaquaan Aaron could also play some two guard in a pinch.

Aside from that they are after another guard (Dozier, Blakeny, Ali, etc) who are all thought to be as good, or better than Mitchell.

Throw in that Mitchell isn't really a PG and has a streaky shot from distance, he likely will have stiff competition.

Also, I'm not sure he's a sure thing, top 30 player, but 30-60 sounds about right. Top 2-3 player in New England, for sure, I put him second after Adams but ahead of Enoch and Sharma.

They are also after some very good 2016 guards, who could jump Mitchell on the depth chart. I like Mitchell but all the guards at UL are top 30-50 type guards.

Yep, everyone is saying they are going along, including us. There will be different degrees of going along, especially at a small private like Providence. A school like Louisville getting p5 money has already shown they will stop at nothing. They will make sure the recruits they want know this.

Unfortunately for PC; Mitchell blew up and got his wish; a big school came calling. Kid will prob end up top 30-ish in the rankings. Now that he's a L'Ville commit; McDs AA as well

Nice try...We beat Creighton in the finals
Well, he was close. PC did beat the Hall in the BE semi's. You'll have to excuse UConn fans for not paying too close attention to the NBE tourney. After all, UConn fans had other matters that might have diverted our attention from the NBE tourney.
Matters that put a big smile on the faces of us s (as you previously proclaimed us as!!) from Putnam to Greenwich.

Really? Are you sure? Aren't they in the ultra tough Missouri Valley conference?

So did you win Missouri Valley or the BE?

If this kid was top 30 or an AA, we would have been all over him.

No player improved his stock in July more than Wolfeboro (N.H.) Brewster Academy standout Donovan Mitchell. I watched the powerfully built 6-foot-3 guard in every July evaluation period and a total of four times. Each time he was impressive. Last November he was known as an athlete with potential on the defensive end. Now he’s much more than and is a shot maker from three. All four times I watched him in July he hit multiple threes, including three or more in three of the games. He’s an improved ball handler and passer as well. He makes aggressive plays towards the rim and once he’s there he’s a terrific finisher because of his strength and athleticism. Speaking of his athleticism, he’s quite gifted in that area and is capable of highlight reel dunks in transition or off put backs. He’s a lock down defender that moves well laterally and plays a tough, physically brand of ball. Heading into July, Mitchell wasn’t regarded as a top 100 prospect. Now he’s in the conversation for a spot in Scout.com’s top 25.
