Thursday evening a piece of information was dropped on the tele that should make us all circumspect and most cautious. On "Elementary" we learned that Moriarity or "m" is an Arsenal fan. Consider the implication the intersection of Arsenal, a name derived from an initial "m," and a tendency to an erudite some would say arrogant intellect. Think about it, we may all be a great risk.

Sometimes I'll drop by to see what's up on the jolly old Boneyard, and feel like I stepped into an alternate universe dominated by re-runs of Twilight Zone. Even Icebear, the gentle erudite iBear, can make me feel like Rip Van Winkle woken into a world that makes no sense. "Elementary"? "M"? "..be at great risk"? Okay Moriarty makes me think Sherlock Holmes, and "Elementary" may refer to Mr. Holmes' well known - even to me - throw-away line ("Elementary my dear Watson"), but... What? Time to duck out and visit my dear old digital NYTimes, a universe that while often deeply strange at least appears like it could make sense if I applied myself. Perhaps when I get back some of you well-informed young people will have responded to the iBear and I can get a clue.

Yes, grave danger. Moriarty is an Irish name. Breaking down Arsenal into it's component parts, we get arse and nal - a Norse word meaning needle. Thus there can be no mistake in the interpretation. We will be visited by an arse of a Notre Dame fan who will needle us mercilessly.

Whew...for a moment there I was worried that Ice was suggesting Meyers=Moriarity...while the intellect is erudite, I thought the characterization of arrogance a mite harsh...!

It is the arrogance of Moriarity I was thinking of and the erudite Meyers is to be held with a cautious eye since the one who was supposed to be Moriarity watched Arsenal games during the murders he committed.

Joe, "Elementary" is the new CBS Holmes recasting of the Holmes character this season with Johnny Lee Miller as Holmes in NYC with Lucy Liu as Joan Watson and Aidin Quinn as Lt. Gregson, the equivalent of Inspector Lastrade.

I have not seen Elementary, but if Moriarity is an Arsenal fan, he has good taste. :D

(Arsenal does have some "unfortunate" fans - Bin Laden, Piers Morgan, Spike Lee :( ah what are you gonna do?)
