UCF is in the process of an engineering study to see if it can build an open-air “tiki bar” on the east side of Bright House Network Stadium, athletic director Todd Stansbury confirmed.
"The idea is to create an open air club that has kind of sports bar feel to it, and really emphasize the fact that we’re in Florida,” Stansbury said. “The idea actually came from when we were in the process at Oregon State in expanding our stadium, one thing focused on is in premium seat areas was making the club and the loge and the suites really kind of take on the northwest feel, so when you were in those areas you knew you were somewhere in the northwest and taking on that personality."
From the Orlando Business Journal Article: "A $1.4 million open-air club tweak to Bright House Networks Stadium, which would include a tiki bar with a Margaritaville-feel, serving alcohol and food. If funding is found, construction would start next January and finish by August 2014. The reason for the tiki bar? Stansbury said when UCF is on TV, he wants the people in Chicago and New Jersey to see “palm trees and flip-flops.”"
