It would be enough to bring some people to their knees or turn others visibly defiant (think Jim Calhoun on his way out the door).

Calhoun was incredibly gracious in his last year, and during 2011 as well. He looked calmer than ever before, and frequently went out of his way to say good things about the teams he lost to.

Boeheim, however, has in the last year savaged a guy who claimed Boeheim's assistant coach molested him when he was a young teen, and he went after Andy Katz with a personal attack.

Dana Oneil also wants to teach us some basketball strategy about Cuse's 2-3 zone: http://espn.go.com/mens-college-bas...-four-secret-syracuse-orange-2-3-zone-defense

She's been at it for awhile now:

O'Neil:
Look around at the roadkill along the side of the road in this latest iteration of As The Conferences Turn. Who stands as the epic losers in this greedy power struggle? Temple and Connecticut, two schools who forgot who they were.
Neither of them have ever been so-called football schools, yet each sold their souls to the gridiron devil, hoping to pocket some of the big money.
O'Neil said:
Then there's UConn. The Huskies built a football stadium on the side of I-84, won enough games to get to the Fiesta Bowl in 2010 and then attracted approximately 11 people to Arizona for the game. Randy Edsall promptly left for Maryland and, since then, Connecticut has been below .500 and desperate to get to another conference.
Saddled now with an FBS football program to find a residence for, UConn basketball -- the real flagship sport in the Nutmeg State -- is no longer part of the hoop-centric equation and consequently living on athletics' Skid Row.
She can give it a rest once in awhile.

I dunno, she kinda sums it up. We are a basketball school. We are not as attractive football wise. Maybe had BC not blocked us, we would have made the ACC. Our BBall program is not at it's most attractive now with NCAA sanctions and a coach coming off his rookie year.

If it weren't for college football (not trying to bash cf, it's where the money's at), we wouldn't have had to worry about conference realignment. And since football isn't our strongsuit, we have been left out of a power conference.

That's not what she wrote though. She wrote that UConn sold out by playing college football. There is no chance of making the ACC without it.

Plus, the age-old UConn fans don't travel to the Fiesta argument... because she checked with the UConn AD's ticket sales apparently.

Dana Oneil is a hack... Lets not forget her putting Calhoun in the same boat as Paterno the day after he decides to retire, absolutely disgusting article. She has had it out UConn since day one...... and seems to slip in a UConn jab whenever she gets the chance

....not to mention her spreading Neisseria Gonorrhoeae throughout the Tri-State area...dirty dirty Dana

While this is true, football is a ticket to a power conference, without it we would still be Big East, which I'd perfer over the crap conference we're left with (plus MSG).

There's no guarantee we will join a power conference, which I hope we do, instead of becoming Conference USA 2.0.

We always have the option of ditching football and joining with the teams that will be frozen out of big time basketball in the future.

That could be, who knows what will happen. Maybe the good to great basketball schools will split from football. Duke, UNC, Kentucky, Zona, UConn, Indiana, Butler, Gonzaga, UCLA, the Big East, the schools who left the Big East...........

I love this insane idea of a cabal of commentators - Gottlieb, Dana O'Neil, Seth Davis, whoever else - that actually hate UConn and scheme on ways to denigrate the school. It's so, so dumb.

Proof is in the puddin....Dana is trash

Unlike most here, never had problem with Gottlieb, he's a pr!ck, but he's a equal opportunity pr!ck who treats most the same (outside Okla St & Big12) but I must say, I value what he's says more than others, it may be harsh but there's much truth to what he says.

Seth Davis, ehh, who cares
Parrish though for me, is in the same boat as Dana

The other O'Neill article that was pathetic was when she wrote an entire column bashing UConn for proposing an alternative punishment to the APR ban last february, calling it "begging" or something to that effect. It came out a day later that the NCAA actually requested that UConn and other schools propose a potential alternative punishment.

so you are suggesting that if uconn didn't play fbs football, we would have landed in a power conference?
which 'power conference would that be?

She also said Herbst begged to join the ACC

Are you serious? Do you think these people are not human and have biases and dislike certain schools more than others? There are absolutely media personalities who obviously have it out for UConn (Dana O'Neil), and there are others who obviously like UConn (Andy Katz for one), and you can absolutely tell in the work they produce. Basically no one reports anything objectively now (Bilas is the only one I can think of offhand). Do you also think Dickie V doesn't love Duke?

I think you are the one making the dumb comment.

So they will ditch $30 million a year for $3 million?

You don't need to think there's a cabal of anti-UConn media types out there to believe a lot of them had no use for Jim Calhoun, and don't hesitate to take a jab at his team. It doesn't equal a conspiracy, but it seems most national media types either like UConn or really, really can't stand UConn.

No, I'm stating that we would be in a better conference (the Catholic Seven version of the Big East) as opposed to a Conference USA/Atlantic 10 2.0.

We're in no man's land. I hope that we can get into a power conference. Too bad fbs determines that.

Yes :D.

But seriously, I'm not saying drop football - I think the schools I mentioned minus the Catholic seven play fbs football as well. But they are basketball schools first. Maybe join an fbs conference like that? I dunno, this conference realignment bs really sucks. I think we can all agree on that. I just hate seeing our beloved hoops team suffer in all of this.
