Fusion involved?
No. First time was posterior diskectomy. Second time was anterior disk replacement. My doctor and I wanted to avoid fusion as I have issues at the C5-6 level and fusion can destabilize the rest of the cervical column. However, fusion is the go-to for second herniations and a famous doctor I went to for a second option said fusion without a second thought. My doctor did his research and talked to others who’d done a disk replacement on a second herniation so we went for it. So far so good.
