Fusion involved?

No. First time was posterior diskectomy. Second time was anterior disk replacement. My doctor and I wanted to avoid fusion as I have issues at the C5-6 level and fusion can destabilize the rest of the cervical column. However, fusion is the go-to for second herniations and a famous doctor I went to for a second option said fusion without a second thought. My doctor did his research and talked to others who’d done a disk replacement on a second herniation so we went for it. So far so good.

And Ronnie Lott having the tip of his pinkie amputated rather than miss some games to have it surgically repaired.

Jack Youngblood from the Rams played both the Super Bowl and Pro Bowl with a broken leg. Talk about tough and crazy.

I had a cortisone shot for my A-C joint in shoulder from playing hockey. It was immediate relief. Fortunately I only needed this one time.
Another great one was Emmet Smith's performance in the NFC Championship game which he carried Dallas to the win:

Last December I received a cortisone shot in my shoulder to relieve pain from an injury. Unfortunately I experienced a rare side effect from the shot - I ending up getting hiccups that would not stop for FIVE days. The shot eventually wore off and the hiccups stopped, but not before causing a bad case of acid reflux. The stomach healed and the shoulder got a little better, but when still had problems 10 months later this time the doctor prescribed PT which I am still doing. It sucks to get old, but I suppose the alternative is worse.
I also got the endless hiccups! But somewhere around 2am after several hours of it and no way to sleep, I Googled it. Baclofen (muscle relaxer)fixes it and I was lucky enough to have some. Went away within 30 min after I took it

Dont think I got cortisone, but something similar, and the pain doc said the effectiveness would improve with each dose -- eg first might only last for a month or two, the second would be longer, etc. He was right. I think I had 2-3 doses and havent needed it again (10+ yrs later).
