So today I got a shot for tennis elbow(I don’t play tennis) at the orthopod, getting one every 3 months over the next 12-18 months. Right now I feel like the one armed man in The Fugitive, this hurts real bad but I know in a day or so it will be good.
Coincidentally on Instagram a video came up today of Sandy Koufax’ retirement press conference where he retired at the top of his game in 1966 due to elbow problems. He said he didnt want to keep having to have cortisone shots and he was getting them after EVERY game. Koufax was a hero of mine in baseball as a kid and it shocks me that he could go out there and throw 99 mph fastballs and curveballs that dropped off the table after getting these shots every outing.

Even wilder was that schilling had his ankle tendon stapled to his heel in the 2004 ALCS, the day before. The things athletes would do to play just 20 years ago feels like a century ago in terms of where they are today. Nowadays LeBron sits out if he has a cold sore.

I had MAJOR low back pain 20 years ago. Tried PT, traction, oral steroids (prednisone). Nothing helped. Got a cortisone shot and got about 10% relief. Two months later, a second shot and quickly got 90+% relief. At the time, I was told I could only have 3 shots in a year, so I held off on the 3rd -- and never ended up getting it. I hope your shots work as well as mine did!

That's what I've been told about the amount of cortisone shots you can get. So back when Koufax played they would give him one for every start? Surprised that didn't cause bone and cartilage damage. Or maybe it did.

I had 2 epidurals for low back issues, and the 2nd fixed it for years. Good luck.

Going for my 2nd in my neck next Thursday and hoping for the same results. I've got 4 screwed up disks all affecting different nerves in my back and arms. Sucks.

How'd you get tennis elbow? Been dealing with it for 11 months now from playing pickleball

I got it a few years back. Combination of golf and throwing BP for my son’s little league team. Or at least that was my ortho’s professional opinion.

I don’t do well with cortisone shots so it was the band that goes around your forearm right below the elbow and lots of ice to manage it. I understand some cases are worse than others.

LeBron is 40 and in his 20th season. The NBA is a grind.
