While not at all familiar with research protocols, are there strict rules of protocol similar to law enforcement chain of custody procedures in effect here? What prevents a researcher from obtaining a hair sample from the base of the mountain and claiming it came from 20,000 feet up the mountain? When DNA is extracted, must there be a corroborating witness present?
