Good news: going to see Charlotte - Detroit Feb 20th. Christmas gift.
Bad news: wife diagnosed with cancer day before Ville game. Surgery scheduled Feb 22.

Cancer found on polyp. Our hope is this is the full extent of her problem. It will most likely be two weeks post surgery to determine full extent. We'd be grateful for anyone wishing to send prayers or good wishes for a successful surgery and excellent prognosis.

Thanks.

I'll be thinking of you both. I'm sure you've gotten this advice already, but as someone who's wife was diagnosed a little under two years ago, and who still goes to scans every 3 months, you are in for a hell of a ride and you have to be a rock. Stay positive. Advocate for your wife with the doctors and hospitals every step of the way. Don't settle and get a couple of opinions. Consider taking charge on research, questioning doctors and specialists, booking appointments, managing travel and all that stuff because her mind will be in other places.

We're cancer free for 21 months. While things are getting back to normal, they'll never quite be the same either. It does remind you what really counts in life.

Thanks for the advice. Glad to hear your wife is doing well and if you give me her first name I'll send it to several groups that pray for peoples well being. I've been with my wife from the beginning on this. It is a ride to say the least. I can't begin to imagine single parents without insurance trying to go through this. I know people do but it seems so cruel.

Have done a lot of research and we feel pretty clear about the approach. Her oncologist surgeon is terrific. She teaches at MUSC. Nurses love her. She goes the extra mile to explain things. We asked her for studies to understand the various prognosis depending on findings to determine extent of surgery. She agreed to accommodate our preferences up to a point and that point was very reasonable. Surgery will be robotic.
If cancer is <2 cm, <50 invasive into the uterine wall and grade 1 than surgery will be limited to uterus removal.

Otherwise fallopian tubes, ovaries and anterior superficial lymph nodes would have to be removed. The choice was to do in one surgery vs. two. I let my wife decide given it was her body. There is a 98% chance of no other tissue involvement if the above parameters are met. She opted for just removal of uterus. It comes down to one six hour surgery or two four hour surgeries. They do a frozen sample path exam on one site deemed most likely to have problems while she is under during the first surgery. If the pathology report proves to be more involved then we believe the doctor will notify me. My wife chose to remove fallopian tubes, ovaries and anterior lymphs at the time of first surgery in that case. Otherwise we have to wait two to three weeks for the complete pathology review. We flow charted the choices and probabilities. The worst case scenario is if it proves invasive and there is evidence it is metastatic. This would really be a negative situation. So the hopes and prayers are that it comes no where near this situation.
