Up 3, they fouled on purpose with 12 seconds left. Way too soon. Hinrich didn't even make both foul shots and they still got burned by it.

Other things happened against them - a held ball that could have been a foul turned the ball over, and a near steal rolled to Hinrich for the tying bucket. Just dumb luck there.

The Bulls were out of timeouts, so that might have been why the C's went to that ploy so quickly. Looked like Hinrich was even going to drive when he was fouled.

Don't think this proves anything - other than that 12 seconds is too much time to do it. You give the other team an extra normal possession (as opposed to a prayer).

Yeah, I'm a big proponent of fouling up three in the final seconds, but clearly they fouled way too early, and I said as much at the time. All you're doing at that point is extending the game. I'd say five seconds is the cutoff for when I would foul in that spot. Although, you have to consider the college game is different than the pro game given the respective rules in regards to advancing the ball.

in the next game, which was awesome, thunder had a chance to give the easiest intentional foul ever at the end and didnt do it. under 3 seconds left, vince inbounds the ball to elton brand who has his back to the basket. holds it for a second and ends up kicking it back to vince who missed a 3 to send it to double OT(mavs had already hit a 3 to tie at end of regulation)

on a slightly related note, Garnett has become just an uber and someone is going to lay him out at some point...
