Love the clam pizza.

I would, also, note that 3 of the top 11 are from New Haven including the usual Sally's and Modern.

Per 100,000 people nowhere has more good pizza than New Haven.

I am amazed at the similar quality found at the newly opened locations. Mohegan, eg, is a short wait, usually, and the pizza remains true to tradition.

Oz - I have a different opinion of Frank Pepe's at the Mohegan Sun. I've been there twice, lines both times, poor service and mediocre pizza - although admittedly I did not order the clam pizza that got the recognition. The problems with lists like this are that they are subjective. I would also question if a piece of flatbread with no cheese (#3 and #7) are actually pizzas.

Sure...the most I can say is that I have been many times to that location(family in Colchester), and we find it easy to sit down at the times we arrive, with 2-4 grandchildren in tow.

I tried Pepe's Fairfield location and thought the pizza was equal to the New Haven spot. Looks like they planned to do volume business, as the pizza oven is huge.

Line at Pepes forms for "mediocre pizza"

Wrong Pepe's Oz.

We live just a couple of miles away. We visit the casino every month or so. There are probably 20 restaurants in the casino with better food and service than what we experienced at Pepe's.

I don't understand why you posted this. I never said anything about the pizza at Pepe's in New Haven and you're the one that posted the wrong picture.

My family is from the Wilkes-Barre area, when visiting relatives, we would always stop at the original Joe's at Harvey's Lake, PA, remember it as very good pie.

Any list of best pizza joints that doesn't mention the Berkshire Cafe in Torrington, Ct
is definitely in need of revision.

So would I.

Some list, what would one expect from the liberal media. Several places in NYC all in lower Manhattan and trendy Brooklyn areas, guess these Madigans' were afraid to travel up to Da Bronx. As for Pepe's Clam, a passing novelty item. Let's see, no tomato, no mozzarella=no pizza. Reminds me of my undergrad years in Bridgeport, 4 of us order a large apizza. Guy brings out a large pie with tomato sauce and no cheese, we ask this mezza morte where the cheese is and says you didn't order a scamozza. What da hell is scamozza? We tell this scoochamend to vafanabola, throw our moppinas on the floor and walk out. Didn't eat, didn't pay, never went back.

The clam pizza at Pepe's isn't a novelty. They have been known for it for at least 30 maybe 40 years.

Of course all opinions of pizza are subjective but I've never understood why Pepe's gets such rave reviews. I've never had the clam pizza but I have had the basic cheese pizza and wasn't impressed. Likewise for Modern Pizza. Not saying they were bad but...nothing to write home about. I personally think Dominic's in Waterbury and Ro's in Watertown are great pizzas.

Domenick and Pia's in Waterbury is my all-time favorite pizza joint. Awesome pizza with a tomato taste I've never had from any other pizza, Pia is the sweetest old lady and her son is a nice guy and will bring their outstanding pizza for future generations.

In my world, there are three things Occam's Razor can't remove and still have pizza: crust, tomato sauce, and cheese.

Occam’s Razor - not to be confused with Occum Pizza in Norwich, one of my personal big three along with Midway Pizza and the Recovery Room, both in the Groton – New London Metroplex.

Sadly I live in the other end of Connecticut...

Colony Grill in Stamford...are they still open? Go sit at the bar and order a beer and your favorite pizza flavor and tell me that's not the best you have had? Or one of at least.

You made me rethink my original Occam's Razor comment. True pizza really consists of four distinct elements (not, as posited, three): crust; tomato sauce; cheese; beer.
