He's a terrific athlete. Hey Dakari Johnson, how about you transfer here? I don't get why kids are in such a rush to sit on kentuckys pine during crunch time. aanother reason beating them was so freakin sweet.

I thought that Dakari Johnson was a cheap shot artist in the championship game, not sure he is someone KO would want here if his play in one game was typical.

Cauley-Stein reminds me of Tyrus Thomas.... he's doing the right thing by going back to school

No he's not. He's still a lottery pick even after he got injured. What happens with another injury next year? His draft stock plummets.

I can never understand why anyone thats projected to be a lottery pick would return to college and risk getting hurt. Just doesn't make any sense.

While I agree that he should have came out, I don't think the risk of injury is the reason. Has any basketball player in history ever ruined their draft status due to injury after returning to school?

Interesting development. UK has two top 15 posts coming in next year (Lyles and Towns), and return Cauley-Stein and Marcus Lee with Johnson's decision pending...hard to believe that there is enough PT to go around for that many bigs...someone will have to go.

Perry Jones III certainly did a couple years ago. He was considered a top 5 pick most of his freshman year. Ended up going 28th his sophomore year. I'm sure there are others but that was one that came to mind immediately.

He didn't even injure his knee at Baylor did he? I believe it showed up in a physical for the NBA and was only a "potential" problem. Same thing would have showed up in a physical after his freshman year as I understand it. I'm talking about a player who returned to school, got injured, and saw his stock plummet.

Exactly.. in football I would agree.. the risk of serious injury is MUCH greater, but in basketball it's usually just because you're not as good a player as people thought and it gets exposed as people get more tape of you

Jared Sullinger.

Jared Sullinger dropped because he had trouble scoring against size and he's not that athletic. He actually played well the first part of his rookie year before he injured his back.

Welcome to Kentucky, where even if you're not a 1 and done, you will be recruited over so maybe you should just go ahead and be a 1 and done after all.

Maybe he loves college. Good for him. As a big fan of college basketball I admire these types of decisions

It has been a while, but Terrence Morris of Maryland was always the cautionary tale back in the day. Might have been a lotto pick if he left after his sophomore year. Stayed two more and struggled to be the man - fell into the second round after his senior year. Don't think injuries were a factor, so a bit off topic.

For us, it is hard to know what KEA might have done if he declared after the title. He was always going to be short and stocky, but perhaps he might have snuck into the late first round on the intangibles train. Most guys seem to leave on the high note, although Florida's guys all stuck around after the first title and won another.

That's fine that he was "flagged" but if they think you can play they'll still take you.. see Nerlens Noel.
It's not like he went undrafted. The Celtics got him with the 21 pick. Noel has a different skillset than Sullinger. On top of that, Noel was over drafted by an inept team, evidenced that he was then traded to Philly (with an additional 1st round pick) to boot. Philly got the better part of that deal, without a doubt with two lottery picks and Noel coming back next year, and Michael Carter-Williams. I don't know enough about the team to call then inept or not, but they got the best of the Pelicans here.

As I've repeated, it only takes one.

Yeah, that had nothing to do with injuries. He just never got any better.

He was cited as a guy whose draft stock plummeted by coming back and getting injured. I maintain that he would've been drafted in the same place regardless of his "flag" for back problems. His 2nd year exposed his weaknesses. He struggles against taller, long-armed defenders and his game is mostly below the rim. Let's see how long Embiid and his back problems last.. I guarantee he won't be there at 21.

I thought the same thing. I wonder if Cauley-Stein even consulted Calipari when making his decision. Cal has a proven track record of showing kids the door when he's recruited over them.
