Correction (can't edit title) - he's leaving the team but Dez didn't say whether McNeal is staying in school to get his master's or not.

Can you edit the spelling of his last name? We talked about this guy enough for folks to at least get that right

Barring anything crazy coming out of the Louisville camp, I certainly hope that the people who "fried" UConn for not getting this kid in the door by hook or by crook come back on the board and say a mea culpa.

I don't take any pleasure in a young man not succeeding, but I stood by and still stand by UConn's decision...

Do you know the reasons he left the program? Do you think we should not have offered scholarships to the countless individuals who flunked out of UConn?

I stand by my position.

This has the sound of a kid who didn't make the 2 deep, and decided it wasn't worth it. I never quite got the big deal anyway. it wasn't like he burned it up at Clemson. Maybe he was hurt or something, but his output last year was 1 reception for 8 yards...

Unfortunately we're unable to edit titles. Though it doesn't really matter in this case since he wouldn't be re-recruited from the sound of it.

That's why I typed "Barring anything crazy coming out of the Louisville camp" Jimmy!

So I'll stand by mine, too.

Maybe he didn't like Louisville. Absent finding out he broke laws or rules, why in the world does this change what went down last month?

It really doesn't change anything, Biz. I suppose my comment was unnecessary, but because the player was brought up again, I wanted to reiterate that I'm proud of my university for not selling their soul for an athlete. I thought that people didn't agree with that stance based on the fact that Louisville was more than happy to allow him into their school, and that UConn would suffer from their integrity (it seems now that they will not).

But you're right. In retrospect, I probably should have just kept my keyboard shut...

Then what is my mea culpa supposed to say? I still think DiMauro (for once in his miserable life) got this one right. Was it a gamble? Sure it was. But I still maintain that it's a gamble we should've taken.

The point that I was trying to make was that showing our integrity did not put us at a competitive disadvantage (or at least in this instance). I obviously share Dez's feelings about DiMauro being dead-wrong.

But as I said to Biz, I should have laid off this issue. I suppose the only "mea culpa" in this thread is going to be mine...

I think both stances are very reasonable for what it's worth. But I think it's wrong for Dez to call out DiMauro like he did. Little bit of chest thumping going on here.

For all we know....if we admitted McNeal maybe he would've been tearing up camp by now. And maybe he would've quit. Who knows.

True. But I guess what I was saying is indifferent to the performance on the field. He may have been our number 1 guy, who knows. But I guess I'm just glad that UConn is unlike other institutions in that academics still matters a little bit (you hear that, UNC?). ;)

While it is true that we don't really know what he would have done, here's a guy who went from 19 catches in 2010 to 1 in 2011, to transferring from one of the ACC's better programs. Sounds like he wasn't going to be doing much more than providing depth at Louisville, too. Forwhatever reason, it doesn't sound like he is playing at the same level he did 2 years ago, and Strong as much as said they didn't have great talent at wideout...

Eric Crawford@ericcrawford
Strong: McNeal didn't violate a rule, left on his own. "I always say, this program isn't for everybody. Some can handle it, some can't."
