4:30 p.m. Yikes!

Can't wait for Troon !! I don't think it's been there for awhile and for some reason I am really looking forward to the tournament this year, more than usual.

I want to see how they negotiate the 'postage stamp' if the wind is up... miss that green and you're toast

Rain the past few days has softened the course...able to control approaches to greens...lots of low scores so far.


Truth is: The U.S. Open traditionally sets up the course to be very hard in ideal weather.
If the weather [wind] is bad, it occasionally becomes over the top hard.

The British: with nice weather the players tend to abuse the course...they need wind to make it tough...fortunately they usually get wind. It's fun to watch them play so much more along the ground over there...low scores or not.

Phil ties the course record (63). Ends with a 3 stroke lead. Tomorrow's weather is supposed to be horrid so we're not going to see scoring like today.
Hopefully, Phil (he's 46 !) can hold on. He's on the downside of a wonderful career and won't have too many more chances, like this, in the majors.

The golf gods just don't want a 62 in a major. Phil's ball for 62 got spit out, just as Tiger's did about 10 years ago.

Phil is taking advantage of the decent weather before the heavy rain comes in later today. He's 3 under so far after 11. That puts him 11 under for the tournament and a 5 stroke lead.
