Transferred because he was suspended for the season at PC, now gone from Oregon, due to rape allegations. I suspect Mr. Austin's college career is over. I imagine both schools APR took a hit on this kid.

Glad we dodged a bullet when he chose Penn State over us originally.

I guess when he decommitted from Penn State, he saved them from having a sexual assault scandal. Oh, wait.

Ed Cooley and PC knew about his issues. They willingly let him go and made sure that nothing bad was said about him on the way out the door. The Piece of Chit program that is PC should also be held accountable.

Ed Cooley is a total fraud. Not telling Dana Altman that Austin was a sexual predator contributed to this.

Who do they think they are fooling with this BS? When I first read this, I laughed at my computer screen in disgust.

"...Austin sat out last season after transferring from Providence. Altman said Friday that in retrospect he should have questioned Austin more closely about why he was leaving Providence."

And all this is pretty laughable too:

"Mullens also said he was unaware that Austin had been involved in a separate, open sexual assault investigation at Providence.

Altman said he talked to Providence coach Ed Cooley before Austin transferred to Oregon. Cooley never mentioned that Austin had been involved in a sexual assault case there, Altman said. He said he didn't know about the rape investigation at Austin's previous school until the criminal investigation began in March.

"Ed Cooley said that it was not a legal matter, it was a university matter," Altman said. "The fact that Providence tried to keep him gave us confidence it wasn't a serious matter.

Now an article reporting on the "apparent" facts of what may have happened is all well and good, but I sure wish ESPN would nut up and put out an opinion piece condemning the actions of these schools and "clueless" individuals.

Please. Didn't we all survive the Kasongo saga not long ago? Dana Altman and Oregon don't smell good in general. Trying to blame this on Cooley just makes them smell worse.

Classic Cooley...he will show off a great recruiting class by recruiting kids nobody else will touch. Then he will use it as proof that they're a rising power.

Ah, no.

There's a reason nobody touches these recruits, Ed. And if UConn wanted them, you'd have no shot.

Unless I'm mistaken, we recruited Austin very hard and wanted him pretty badly. In fact this board went nuts when he chose PC over us. Chukwu too...

Yahoo would be all over this if it were UConn but now that it's Phil Knights alma mater I'm not so sure they'll sack up on this one!

Austin, as far as I know, had no issues in high school. Plenty of schools wanted him.

PC seemed to be trying its hardest to keep him from transferring and the other kid who was accused at PC did stay (Bullock). Altman is a sketchy coach but (my conjecture) Cooley probably told him what he could but also wanted to keep Austin. Both coaches come off as sleezy. Cooley for wanting to keep Austin (and keeping Bullock). Altman for taking Austin. Maybe they thought it was a case of false accusation, but this second incident shows it likely wasn't.

That Altman played the two guys accused in the tournament and Cooley kept Bullock is the sketchier part for both coaches.

He had no flags in high school I'm aware of. Cooley shouldn't be bagged for taking him then. He should be for trying to keep him (as he kept Bullock) after the two were accused.

My bad on Austin but Cooley does have a history of recruiting highly rated kids who won't qualify. And yes, UConn went after him. There's a reason nobody would touch Ricky Ledo with a hundred foot pole.
