I am looking for a strong, battery operated blue tooth speaker for my iphone. It'll be used in my classroom which is around a 1,000 sq feet.

Any suggestions?

What's your budget? There are so many and they vary in price greatly.

Jambox (there are 3 sizes right now) for a room that large you may need the big one but the middle or original size one is really good and loud, good quality. I've had a couple for 3 years. I also have a beats pill that is a little less clear quality wise - got it for free so it's in my office and I use it on low. It's round so when it got bumped it rolled off the shelf and got bruised.

Which do you consider the middle one? Looks like they have a dozen models.

My budget is $150 max. I need good quality, not great. Volume is important, as is battery life.

I would second the jambox. I have the big jambox and it's awesome, but it's $250-300. The regular one should be in your price range. The big jambox's battery lasts 15 hours or so. Very good volume and sound quality. I would think the smaller one would not be as good, but still very good.

I have two units but have tested many. Both of the ones I bought have come down in price and are under $90.00

One is the Big Blue which I bought on a whim. I like it. Its good for the price but misses on the clarity. The one I have needs a wall plug.

I also have a JBL Flip that I bought for my daughter for Christmas. For the $ and convenience, this is a better. The sound is really good for a small, rechargeable unit. I would buy another.

.-.
You might consider powered PC speakers if you have access to power. They offer power and stereo capability which is far beyond what you get out of a small bluetooth speaker. The good ones cost a bit more but I imagine you could get a decent pair for under $150. There are a few bluetooth models, but most of them come with an RCA port and a wire to hook up to your phone/tablet. I have an issue with listening to music on crappy speakers. I find the bit of extra freedom that I get by being wireless doesn't offset the loss of audio quality.

These are well in your price range.

These cost a bit more but I'm getting a pair of these for my kitchen where I find I listen to most of my music these days. They have a little brother, the A2 or A2+ which is closer to your price range.

I see on amazon the regular size Jambox is $149 but on sale for $99.00. I've listened to a lot of the other units and other than the Bose at $199, imho they are all so so - have some limitations. $99 for a jambox is a great deal. (the mini and the Big are more!) The main choice will be color - comes in about 15 different colors.

One more for your consideration - a Soundfreaq, I think the model is the Soundkick. Great sound, great online reviews, and cost is right around $99.

I have this one: linky. This is a great deal on Amazon compared to newegg.

As for sound its great, pairs nicely and with batteries very portable. Creative is a speaker company as well.

For the price I like the Logitech UE Mobile Boombox. Battery lasts about 10 hours and sounds good. I got mine on ebay new for $56, retails for about $99.
