I wonder if it's one or the other I'm losing their job

Most likely. It is kinda sad how almost any University employee is more expendable than the head coach of the football or basketball team.

From casting bells to dropping axes.

So a Head Basketball Coach whose program participated in pimping prostitutes to teen-age prospects keeps his job but the Governor probably without sufficient legal authority bounces the entire Board of Trustees and the school President without anyone available to step into their roles for months at the earliest? Oh well it is Kentucky.

Bevin said the changes had nothing to do with the school’s basketball program involving a prostitution scandal.

In recent years, the university has been mired in several high-profile controversies. They include high pay for Ramsey and some of his top staffers, several employees — including a dean being convicted of embezzlement, misuse of funds by the alumni director and the president and his staff being accused of racial insensitivity after donning Mexican sombreros at a Halloween party. Most recently, the finance committee declined to vote on the proposed 2016-17 budget because of a 5 percent tuition increase, and asked the administration to come back with another version.

University of Louisville board, president out as Bevin seeks ‘fresh start’

Part of the fresh start should be the departure of Pitino. Maybe the Governor expects the new President to do the deed? I don't know. Or maybe the basketball program produces too much revenue both direct and via donations. Someone needs to produce cash for the Yum Center.
