The public one south gets crowded on weekends. I also give a thumbs up to Bayview/Mayflower in Dennis. Great beaches. The Cape Cod National seashore beaches are (a) beautiful (b) a little tough to get to and (c) cold as hell (water), often with rough surf breaking straight on the beach, which has a steep drop off in most cases.
