As I am Jewish and also speak a little Yiddish (and took a graduate course on the history of Yiddish linguistics), every time [USER=1951]@schmendrick[/USER] posts, I chuckle.

In Yiddish, "schmendrick" means to a foolish person (polite version) or a stupid person (less-polite definition). It is similar to the Yiddish word "schlemiel" in that respect.

My brother's middle name is Frederick, and whenever he did something to REALLY upset my parents, my mother exclaimed, "Schmendrick" (being a play on his middle name and referencing the foolishness of his actions).
