Boise State becoming Boise of the West has gotten Boise of the West a MWC deal that sucks as much as the Big East deal. The TCU model is more appropriate. Major team in a major market, peaking at the right time.
UConn needs the Big Ten to look at UConn as TCU of the east, right team at the right place, which neither offends nor inspires, but fills a particular need.
With the Big Ten going to 9 (soon to be 10) conference games, and eliminating FCS opponents, the separation of the power conferences from the MWC, CUSA, Sunbelt, and MAC is growing. Only a matter of time that the cartel closes off completely.
So far things haven't turned out too swimmingly for UConn. Let's hope the administration is better behind the scenes than they are publicly, and knows what they are doing.
As a poli sci prof, Herbst knows that politics is all about who gets what, when and how.
Objectively, UConn gets nothing, gets this nothing immediately, and the method of getting is a ramming up its with some sand thrown in for good measure. To keep the system honest, the fate of those politicians in charge of such carnage usually suffer from their constituents. Hopefully the rectal bleeding is like a big red flashing neon sign to Herbst.
