dont open this LINK if you dont want to know who won... replay at 9am this morning on ESPN2

Ugh. Anyone wanting parity in a sport needs to look at women's tennis and ask whether you're really more invested in it now than you were in the days of Chrissy, Martina, Steffi, or the Williams sisters. Nothing against VA, but this sucks.

What tennis, in general, needs is more American participation, more top tier American players. What has happened?

And a LOT less screaming. aaarrrgggghhhhh!

Well, a 15 yr old American won both the junior's singles and doubles titles: Taylor Townsend!

I actually like the grunting, even the very loud levels (maybe not Michelle Larcher de Brito, who is significantly worse than either Sharapova or Azarenka). I find it very entertaining.

Well Azarkenka is now #1. Let's see if she can hold onto it longer than has been the trend recently. Wozniacki had the ranking for some time, but no one considers her the best player- just the most consistent. And no one who actually wins majors can stay healthy and/or focused. We now have to hope Kvitova and Azarenka stay in the hunt consistently. Recent history has me less than optimistic.

I also have absolutely no complaints about the grunting. Except when Serena is the only one ever penalized for it. Of course, that penalty would be called in a Grand Slam final.
