RIP Sheriff Taylor.

Used to watch that show all the time.

Shazam! G-o-l-l-y. Sur-prise, sur-prise, sur-prise!

RIP, Andy.

R.I.P to a definite legend. :(

Lead story on all the local TV news shows today.... will definitely be on the front page of every single NC newspaper tomorrow.

Another icon from my childhood gone... On top of getting a new boss 23 years my junior that I am old enough to be his mother, I am starting to feel really old.

Me too…I’m so old the only time I don’t need to pee is when I’m peeing

Somewhere, Ron Howard is feeling much older today.

He was my high school teacher at Goldsboro NC back in 1950.

Was Bobby Goldsboro from there? Sort of like El Greco was from Greece. :)

Loved the show and still occasionally see a bit of it on TVLand.

Trivia questions....no research allowed

Walk-on level: what was unusual about Barney's ammo for his gun?

Scholarship level: Andy had two main squeezes on the show. Who was the first one....her character's name
and the actress who played it? Extra credit...what other prominent role did she have in a long ago sit-com?

Maya Moore level: an actor who had a recurring role on MASH had a one time part on Andy Griffith. Who was the actor and what role did he play on Andy's show?

When I was about 12, the funniest movie I had seen was No Time For Sergeants starring Andy Griffith. I'm sure that movie inspired The Gomer Pyle show.

The frustrated Sgt. King gave Andy the Title of P.L.O. (Permanent Latreen Orderly) which resulted in this funny scene:

(BTW, the private with the glasses is Nick Adams, who went on to play Johnny Yuma, The Rebel, and later committed suicide.)

Andy also first appeared with Don Knotts in this movie. Here's the scene:

Elinor Donahue played Ellie, one of Andy's girlfriends. She was also "Princess" on Father Knows Best.

I too feel sadden At our loss. Even more so that he was only 6 years older than me. Life is short make the most of it.

Walk on: Barney's gun had one bullet which, I believe, he carried in his shirt pocket.
Scholarship: I only remember Helen Crump the school teacher, so kudos to Aluminny69.
Maya Moore: I do not know the answer you seek, but recall George "Goober" Lindsey in a one time appearance on MASH as a surgeon.

I did forget about Goober...good pick-up. The one I recalled was the actor who played Father Mulcahy
in MASH came to Mayberry as a young doctor...very young and with golf clubs in the back of his sports car. Nobody would go to see him till Andy OK'ed him doing a tonsillectomy on Opie....then all was well.

It was a later one....Opie must have been around 13 or so. One of the interesting things I have read in the last few days was that Griffith felt the show was losing ground after a few years in terms of quality of writing etc and that he kinda pulled the plug on it even though the ratings were still high. My guess is that when Don Knotts left that led to going south.

BTW: A few years ago in some context or other I read that Griffith and the actress who played Aunt Bee didn't really get along all that well.

BTW#2: When Don Knotts passed away a few years ago I happened to poke around and found a site dedicated to the Andy Griffith show. I tell ya'...those people are nuts....not like we Boneyarders on the topic of the UConn women.
The affection they have for the show and the voluminous detail that they go into are both touching and just a tad disturbing....:-)
