Mostly due to a lack of info coming in to us about UConn, I figured I would put this thread up for discussion. Barry Alvarez has agreed to coach Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl due to Bielema's departure:

I get the feeling from reading this article and from other things that I've read about Alvarez that he involves himself perhaps a little too much in the football team's affairs. I wonder if that's what drove Bielema away from a seemingly perfect job for him? Did he just have "enough" of Alvarez being his boss? Anyways, food for thought, and it will I'm sure be the major talking point of the Rose Bowl this year...

Always a tough job when you are taking over from a long time coach who will now be your boss. I think it takes and exceptional boss to keep his hands out of the football team when you step up to become AD full time.

Bielema said on mike and mike that it was assistant coach salaries that mostly made him leave. He said he had to watch too many coaches leave the program because Wisc capped the assistants at 300k/year.

I read the same thing somewhere. It's kind of a reality check for everyone that isn't 5-6 programs in the SEC.

It's like "hey we lead the nation in illiteracy, but we paid our OC 1.2 million last year".
