I live in Hamden and my part of town had every bit of the record 40" snowfall. We were away in balmy Syracuse on the day of the storm, and were not able to return home until late Monday because our street at home had been impassable (stranded with grandchildren isn't the worst thing in the world). The snow removal effort has been a real strain for public works, National Guardsmen and volunteers. Many of the side streets, including mine, have had one lane open, making for a few jousts between oncoming cars. The payloaders are everywhere, and there are a load of Guardsmen in town to help. We have had from one to four of them at times working on my very suburban street. They got to our block today and we couldn't be more grateful. Getting mail has been difficult and getting snowblowers through 5-6 feet of ice-chunky snow to clear to the curb has been, well, fegedaboudit. Watching the payloader rip through the mess was a relief. Things are getting back to normal, although having snow piled to 7 feet or so in parts of the yard is a little unusual. I assume others had similar experience, but I didn't want to let the opportunity pass to express my thanks.
