I know when a house is connected to a sewer line the homeownwer is responsible for the pipe(s) that come off the main to the house.

Who owns the power line that goes from the pole (or mid-span)to a house? If a tree falls on that line is CL&P responsible for the removal of the limb/tree? I am getting conflicting info from friends and family.

Thanks.

Found this on the West Hartford website
"
In addition, CL&P crews are patrolling the town taking note of individual homes without power and trying to determine if the problem is at the pole or at the junction box attached to the house. If your junction box has pulled away from the house, you will need to call an electrician to reconnect the box. If the box is intact, the problem is at the pole and CL&P will need to make a fix."

It is my understanding that you own from where the wires touch your house in except the meter itself. The meter enclosure is yours as well.

So to answer your question the wires from the pole to your house should be owned and maintained by your utility. At least that's the case with UI

This sounds good so far. I guess I will try and reach a human at CL&P before contracting with a tree guy.

EDIT: I reached a human and CL&P does own that wire. I can't have anyone touch a thing until CL&P cuts away the limbs that have the line pinned.
