Captain Kristen Geist, a native of Orange, Connecticut, will be the US Army's first female Infantry officer. She was commissioned at West Point and successfully completed Ranger School. As we take such pride in athletes who represent our state in sports, let's take a moment to salute one of our own as she undertakes an unprecedented challenge.

I'm confident that she will do just fine. All it takes to lead troops in combat is to be a bit of a Badass.;)

She will. She is strong, self-possessed, and not an in-your-face kind of young woman.

Thanks for posting Kib. What an awesome accomplishment. Proud of you Captain Geist.

Male students took notice, as well. Greist and Haver earned exemplary marks on their peer reviews, a portion of the grading that is heavily weighted in determining who graduates the course.

My daughter is Col in the Engineers, as a Lt early on she requested and got Special Services training and jumped in Jacksonville, Nc, went to Kosovo (phonetic spelling) and a dozen other not so nice places.
what it takes to lead in Combat, is bars or brass on your helmet, but to truly lead forget the brass and have your people TRUST you.
So, as the father of a US Army female soldier I congrat Officer Geist. Women have been part of our military since George Washingtons day maybe not in uniform or wore infantry badges---those Molly Pitchers types and the Nurses of all services and now our Ct Capt honor all who served... Russian Women in WWII fought along side and with male units--and the Germans considered them the truest of true BADASSes---I worry about our enemies who come up against Capt Geist and her troop..

Excuse me, sir, but I believe you made a common but unfortunate error in your otherwise excellent post.

I am sure you meant to refer to Special Forces training. The military roles for those in Special Services vs. those in Special Forces are vastly different.;)

Glad you pointed that out... I was just thinking of questioning that MOS myself...
