Here's a story that might be of interest to Coach Cal and the like........perhaps they can catch him on the rebound...........
Jonathon Nicola was making a significant impact on the hardwood for Catholic Central High School in Windsor, Ontario, that is until it was discovered he is 30 years old, not 17.
Nicola, who fled warn-torn South Sudan last year, was arrested at the Canadian border last week. He is being held by the Canada Border Services Agency on charges of contravening the Immigration Refugee Protection Act, according to the Windsor Star.
"There's really not a whole lot to say," Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board spokesman Stephen Fields told the Windsor Star. "Because of the fact this is a matter that's still outstanding before the federal authorities, obviously we can't really comment on it. Beyond that there's not a whole lot to say."
Nicola was living in Windsor on a student visa and playing on the high school basketball team, previously telling officials that he turned 17 last November, days after arriving in Canada. He had a detention review on Tuesday and remains at a detention center until at least next week, when he is scheduled for another hearing.
"Generally I can tell you that we have a system of checks and balances in place," added Fields, "that whenever international students are coming into any of our schools, we make sure that they have all of the necessary government documentation that they require in order to be in one of our schools."
The 6-10, 205-pound forward was living with Catholic Central head coach Pete Cusumano as part of the Canada Homestay program, according to USA Today Sports. In January, Cusumano told the Windsor Star that Nicola had a shot of reaching the NBA.
