A ton of games but, unfortunately, none that jumps out as "marquee." (I wish WCBB had something like the men's opening-day bonanza of two top-4 pairings.)

Fourteen of the AP top 25 are in action. Most are treating themselves to heavy-cream cupcakes.
Exceptions (end-of-season top 100 Massey rating, as shown parentheses):
  • Missouri State (31) at #23 Minnesota (4p ET)
  • Western Kentucky (99) at #9 Louisville (7p, ACCNX)
  • #16 Notre Dame at Fordham (83) (7p, ESPN+)
  • Little Rock (87) at #6 Texas A&M (8p, SECN+)
  • Ohio (48) at #21 Syracuse (8p, ACCNX)
And here's the grand opening of this year's Cupcake Tour:
  • Wagner (320) at #4 Maryland (11a ET)
  • New Hampshire (330) at #2 Baylor (7p, ESPN+)
  • Alabama State (306) at #8 South Carolina (7p, ESPN+)
  • Charleston Southern (272) at #12 Florida State (7p, ACCNX)
  • Mount St. Mary's (279) at #13 Kentucky (7p, SECN+)
  • Eastern Michigan (173) at #17 Michigan State (7p)
  • Air Force (271) at #20 Arizona State (8p, free live stream)
  • Eastern Washington (183) at #3 Stanford (10p, free live stream)
  • Weber State (290) at #11 UCLA (10p, free live stream)
Other games of (some) interest:
  • High Point at Duke (7p ET, ACCNX). How will @triaddukefan decide who to root for?
  • Rider at Princeton (7p, ESPN+). Division I debut of Coach Berube.
  • Utah at Cincinnati (7p). Intriguing matchup; important for Cincy to win this to build an at-large resume.
  • Houston at Georgia Tech (7p, ESPN+). Return leg from last year's game that went to the Cougs in 3OT.

A few things for Tennessee I'm looking for.
Who will in the starting lineup? Then how others will be subbed in. I think this will be different than the exhibition game. I thought Key looked good in the exhibition game. I'm wanting to see how she does in this game. I do think she can become a good post player.
Will the team use the press on defense? I think you will see some.

Oops, saw I posted in the wrong thread. My early observations on the Maryland game:

Maryland is playing a 4 guard system (if you consider Charles a guard) against Wagner and isn’t starting Austin. I wonder if it’s just a matchup thing or if Austin has really been demoted to the bench for the whole season.

If I worked hard to improve over the summer and got rewarded with a bench spot, I’d give serious consideration to putting my name into that transfer portal. Gotta figure out what’s really going on here.

Austin ended up with team high points (18), rebounds (11), and blocks (2) off the bench. Not sure yet how many minutes that added up to.

Interesting strategy.

Oral Roberts nearly outscored Maryland’s 119 points, by going for 116 against Central Christian of Kansas.

Maryland vs South Carolina this Sunday will be good. They both have dynamic freshman scoring guards and experienced post team players. Can’t wait.

Ha you have your eyes on the Yotes.

They were down 72-62 with 3:00 to play and then went on an amazing 14-0 run, now up by 1 with the ball and less than 10 seconds to play.

South Dakota was in major trouble, as Plebe said, I thought they were headed for certain defeat. Duffy sinks two more, and Yotes lead 78-75.

Northeastern’s gotta rue some missed chances including missing two free throws during that 14-0 run over the final three minutes. Northeastern has a chance to tie for overtime here as Yotes everywhere hold their breath.

That's the big story. Lewis got hurt in the exhibition game. Watson at practice. We'll know in the coming days what's up with them. Down to 8 players.

I wonder if moving forward if Austin will start. They will need her vs SC who has some size. Surprised she didn't start today tbh.

Just looking at the play-by-play, Northeastern had a disastrous 60 seconds after going up by 10. Duffy of USD hits a 3, then Arens gets a steal, bucket and "and-1," followed by yet another steal and bucket. Just like that it was a 2-point game. Then Northeastern misses 2 free throws and, a couple possessions later, Duffy hits a 3 to give USD the lead.

Kaila Charles was 1-14 from three last year. She went 2-3 in her debut. She was criticized in mock drafts for her inability to shoot from deep. I love to see that in a player!

I don't know why Minnesota was ranked in the top 25, to be honest. They missed the NCAA tournament last year, weren't even a bubble team, and it's not like their roster this year is a major upgrade.

Trying to keep an eye on Fordham / ND 7-6 ND midway through Q1. Pretty weird seeing ND so average (so far).
