Before we move on to tonight's games and then regionals, I wanted to take one last opportunity to give Katie Meier credit for her decision to leave Riquna Williams home for the opening two rounds. Now, we don't know what RW did, and I'm not going to speculate here, but I do know that there a lot of coaches who would have swept almost anything under the rug under this set of circumstances. This season was a culmination for Miami, an opportunity with a nucleus of senior guards to go places the program has never gone before. There's big incentive there in terms of prestige, money, professional opportunities- a lot at stake for a head coach. And it's not like it was a surprise that Miami would be severely challenged in Spokane; Miami needed two OTs to beat Rutgers at home earlier in the season, and playing the Zags on their home floor is a challenging task. Katie knew she was risking a lot by not allowing RW to play, and she stood by her principles anyway.
There's a lot of (more fun) things to focus on during the balance of this WCBB season, but the decision by Katie Meier is a footnote to the season that shouldn't be forgotten.
