I love Omar but his play is very sloppy and careless, he can be a great scorer especially when his shot is on but he really needs to tighten up his game. It's pretty much a given when he's handling the ball on a fastbreak it will either be a turnover or a missed contested layup. He needs to give the ball up right away, I don't think he's selfish he just doesn't pass. Ollie won't take him out of the starting lineups because he doesn't want to hurt his confidence but it's clear Giffey is a better player and Kromah is also playing better than him. Keep your head up Omar and learn from your mistakes.

Omar scares me when he is in the open court with the ball. Most times, a pass is the last option.

55-50. Omar out. 8-0 run in about a minute. It's not a coincidence. I'm not trying to bash him. I hope Ollie realizes this

He is playing the most minutes in the games we are expected to win. If you see these sorts of runs against Flordia, Louisville etc then it is time to worry. I was at the Indiana game and don't remember him being in for big IU runs, maybe it was because I was too busy enjoying the atmosphere and $9.75 beers (thieves), but I don't recall this occuring in that game. Perhaps KO is giving OC the oppurtunity to play or be coached his way out of the funk in games where these mental errors will not have an affect on the win.

KO has stuck with line-ups more fastidiously than JC ever did. Omar would have heard ringing in his ears after any one of those ill advised coast-to-coasts.

That said, I think you're largely right @specialisthusky. He's letting Omar play through mistakes with the hope that he'll be better for it. Same as he did for Daniels earlier in the year. And this particular team is better for it.

Not trying to bash omar, he can be a great scorer, but it just seems that every fast break he is looking for his own shot rather an an easy pass and dunk.

That makes sense. But an argument can also be made that Ollie needs to teach him that those plays are unacceptable and continuously making them results in sitting on the bench for long stretches. sometimes I wonder if KOs loyalty is his best strength and weakness. Clearly our players love him but he also needs to be a coach and teach them a lesson sometimes. Giffey has outplayed Omar all season and kromah has too some games and yet Omar still starts and plays more minutes.

I don't disagree with anything your saying, but the the only similiar situation I can base an opinion on favoring one way or the other is how DD has responded from his poor start. KO allowed him to play through some pretty bad stretches and it is starting to pay off. As @tzzandrew (is that how you mention someone? Didn't even know you can do that on here. Twitter is taking over!) it's a pretty striking contrast in coaching styles from KO and JC. I would imagine Omar is going to hear it behind closed doors and in practice leading up to Florida and will be given a chance to respond. If his decision making doesn't improve, well it's time to take your's/JC's approach to get his attention probably.

Someone wrote in the preseason that he was a selfish player and got bashed for it... I have to say I pretty much agree. He is a scorer, but he is also a black hole with the ball in his hands. Plus, he is a horrid passer and ballhandler for a 2/3.

There is nothing Omar does better than Giffey at this point. Giffey should play more than him. Comparing Daniels and Omar situations is like comparing Apples to Oranges because Daniels is a much better player who at the end of the last year demonstrated he can be an all-around player

If Omar is playing like this against UF or any other bigtime opponent then he willl sit just like he did against IU, KO isn't going to risk losing a game for Omar to work through his mistakes. His selfish takes and gunning are frustrating, but I think its important to get Omar back to the level he was at during the middle of the season from last year and right before the wrist injury, it makes us a much more dangerous team. But if he can't get there and needs another summer to refine his game then I'm all for Kromah and Giffey eating a large chunk of his minutes.

You are seriously underplaying what Omar brought last year when healthy, and what he brought the first 3 games before falling into a funk.

I think NG should be playing more minutes and should be in more end of game situations but let's not overreact about Omar. He is a streak scorer who is currently off. Would be an amazing instant offense player at this point in his career. He proved last year that he could be a great scorer, while hobbled, as a freshman, playing in a much better conference than we are currently stuck in. I think it's more than a tad early to give up on him.

He can be more than just a streak shooter, but right now, with nothing falling, he doesn't seem to be able to bring anything else to the table.

Agree 100%. Also, people really need to remember that the kid had surgery and couldn't play all summer. Zero basketball. All summer. So we might want to give him at least the month of November to shake off some of the rust.
